Courtney Love’s Bold Claims: Why She Believes Taylor Swift Lacks Impact and Intrigue

Courtney Love didn’t hold back when asked how she felt about several popular female artists — including Taylor Swift.

According to an interview published by the Standard Monday, the 59-year-old “positively hates the idea” of Swift.

“Taylor is not important,” Love said of the 14-time Grammy winner. “She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”

Love made the shocking statement while promoting her new series, “Courtney Love’s Women,” in which she reflects on the various women in music who have shaped her career.

However, her comments didn’t sit right with Swifites and many pointed out that Love seemingly liked Swift enough to wish the “Cruel Summer” singer a happy birthday on Facebook just a few years ago.

“Happy belated birthday 🎂@taylorswift, aspirational huge role model for many young women & occasional hair twin / neighbour,” Love wrote in December 2021 alongside a photo of the two.

After slamming the “Anti-Hero” singer, Love didn’t mince words when mentioning Lana Del Rey, who she said “should really take seven years off.”

“I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song,” she said of the “Young & Beautiful” singer. “Up until ‘Take Me Home Country Roads’ I thought she was great.”

Despite not liking Del Rey’s music, Love admitted that she had to stop listening to the Coachella headliner while recording her new album because it was “influencing [her] too much.”

Love — who also said she doesn’t “like” Madonna — then took one final shot at Beyoncé, who recently became the first black woman to lead the Top Country Albums Chart following the release of “Cowboy Carter.”

“I mean, I like the idea of Beyoncé doing a country record because it’s about Black women going into spaces where previously only white women have been allowed, not that I like it much,” she said.

“As a concept, I love it. I just don’t like her music.”

Following her comments, fans from several different corners of the internet took to X to blast the “Mono” singer for “publicly putting down fellow female artists” while promoting a series that is supposed to be about the importance of women in music.

“She is jealous, I don’t even know her,” one fan wrote. “Taylor is a world-class artist.”

“Courtney love always coming for women younger and prettier than her, like go find something to do granny,” another wrote.

“100 years from now, the name Courtney Love will mean nothing,” a third fan added. “Not a single person will know who she is. But when Taylor Swift is mentioned, people will remember how she was able to connect with millions of people thru [sic] her music, cherished her fans, and fought for artists’ rights.”

“I’m laughing at people being shocked that Courtney Love is hating on other female artists,” a fourth joked. “Welcome to 1992!!! Homegirl has been a hater since the 90s.”

However, Love seems to agree.

In her interview, the musician admitted that she is “completely disagreeable” and said she is “never going to [apologize] for that.”

“I always wanted to be known as a bitch,” she added. “Being liked was never my thing.”
