The Met Gala is officially upon us, and while some celebs literally beg Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour for a ticket to the coveted fashion event every year (lol), others have decided to skip out on it entirely. The benefit gala is considered the Fashion Super Bowl as it’s thee red carpet of red carpets. Every year, A-listers pull up in the most extravagant looks to walk up the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s massive staircase. Some make a whole show out of the celebrity rite of passage—like Lady Gaga’s 4-part outfit change in 2019 or Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson’s red carpet hard launch in 2022.
Aaanyway, not all celebs have time in their busy schedules to make the exclusive event. That, or they have no desire to go, or have been banned from attending altogether. Several reports surrounding this year’s Met Gala guest list have already started swirling, and while we may be holding out for highly-anticipated red carpet couple debuts (ahem, Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, etc.), we may not get to see them have their moment. Ahead, find all the celebrities reportedly skipping the 2024 Met Gala.
Taylor Swift
Several outlets have reported that Taylor Swift is “passing on” the event this year despite receiving an invitation. Tay hasn’t attended since she was one of the gala’s co-chairs in 2016 (pictured here), and according to her Eras Tour schedule, she’s set to continue her international leg on May 9—just three days after the Met Gala.

Travis Kelce
Per TMZ, “sources with direct knowledge” say Travis and Taylor were “each issued individual invitations to the Met Gala.” It’s unclear why Travis is reportedly skipping out, but he recently confirmed Entertainment Tonight that he’ll be attending some international Eras Tour shows. “She’ll be all over Europe. There won’t be a bad show, I promise you that. Oh, you know I gotta go support. You know it,” he told the outlet.

Billy Porter
Billy Porter last shut down the Met Steps with his show-stopping pharaoh-inspired look in 2019, but he revealed that he will not be attending this year’s event as his mother recently passed away in February. “I just lost my mom,” Billy told E! News at the TIME 100 Gala on April 25. “I have to take care of myself, so I’m doing that. And that means not going to the party sometimes.”

Jared Leto
Jared Leto has pulled up to the Met Gala in some iconic headline-worthy looks over the years (ahem, last year, he literally dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette). However, the actor and musician is skipping out on this year’s festivities as his band 30 Seconds to Mars is headed to Europe for their Seasons World Tour. “Back on the road,” he told E! News on April 1. “It’s been five years. I will be there in spirit with my head and my cat wishing everybody a beautiful night.”
