Meghan Markle Wasn’t Pleased With Her $800 Pay As A ‘Briefcase Girl’ On Deal Or No Deal

Meghan Markle was all over the headlines for her comments made about the NBC game show, Deal or No Deal. Even celebs had a lot to say about her comments, including Howard Stern who made mention that Markle might need a new PR team. The former host Howie Mandel also issued in with some comments of his own, though we’ll take a closer look at what he had to say a little later.

Deal or No Deal had several memorable celebs on its show, perhaps the most impactful of the bunch has to be Meghan Markle. We’ll take a look at her time on the show, and what other ‘briefcase girls’ had to say about Markle’s comments. For the most part, they did not agree…

The Deal Or No Deal ‘Briefcase Girls’ Didn’t Agree With Meghan Markle’s Statement About The Show

Deal or No Deal premiered way back in December of 2005 on NBC, with Howie Mandel taking on the hosting duties. Looking back, it was the ‘briefcase girls’ that would uncover what sum of money was inside their briefcase.

Although Meghan Markle didn’t have the most satisfying time in the position, others disagreed.

Several of the models took to social media, discussing their own personal experiences.

Donna Feldman was among the models to speak out. She told The New York Post that her experience was a completely different one. “I would say I did well for someone supposedly hired to be a ‘bimbo,’” Donna Feldman said.

“Of course, you know what you’re signing up for when you’re hired as a ‘briefcase beauty,’” Feldman said. “It’s up to a woman to decide what experience will empower her or use it as an excuse to seek attention,” she added.

Dina Cerchione, who was a stylist on the show also had a different opinion on the matter. She wrote on Instagram, “We all knew how lucky we were and how special our TV family was. There was a mission at work to do the best we could, take care of our full team and treat everyone with the respect they earned and deserved.”

Meghan Markle on the other hand, felt differently.

Meghan Markle Wasn’t Happy With Her Personal Experience On Deal Or No Deal

$800 a week is nothing to scoff at. This was Markle’s salary per day on the set of Deal or No Deal. The show would typically film several episodes at once.

For Markle however, it was less about the pay, and more about feeling less accomplished during her time on the game show.

Markle said of the experience, “I would end up leaving with this pit in my stomach knowing that I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage,” she said. “I didn’t like feeling forced to be all looks and little substance. And that’s how it felt for me at the time: being reduced to this specific archetype.”
Although it was a moment of courage for Markle, she received lots of backlash for it. Despite the reaction, Markle’s team issued a statement, claiming that it was to be expected.“This negative backlash is extremely disappointing to Meghan, but she’s learned a long time ago not to get too cut up or demotivated by those who wish to dwell in negativity, especially over something so trivial as a job she left many years ago,” the insider tells Us.

Howie Mandel Agreed And Understood Meghan Markle’s Comments

“I think Meghan just said she wanted to do more. It wasn’t fulfilling for her.” Those are some of Howie Mandel’s thoughts alongside EW, as according to the former host, the conditions on the show weren’t bad, but he understood where Markle was coming from.

Mandel especially understood the statement, given that he left Deal or No Deal for similar reasons, feeling underwhelmed by his tasks and duties on the show.

“I get it because — I’ve never said this before — but they had this pyramid of 26 beautiful, intelligent women standing there just staring at me like I was a piece of meat,” he said. “I was in the center, just dressed up in a suit, and I felt like, ‘I am more than this.’ And they would just look at me and I had to do nothing.”

“That’s why I’ve moved on and become a judge on America’s Got Talent,” he said. “I just needed more than to be a Deal or No Deal host.”

At the very least, Markle got some support for her bold statement.
