The Witcher Star Admits Getting in “So Much Trouble” for Season 4 Leak – But What Really Happened?

Safiyya Ingar as Temerian sorceress Keira Metz in 'The Witcher' Season 3

Netflix’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkpowski’s beloved fantasy novels, The Witcher, has been the subject of intense fan scrutiny and excitement recently, largely due to the controversial cast change. The show has a devoted fan base regardless, who are eagerly awaiting the new season. Amidst the anticipation, one of the show’s stars has reflected on the “trouble” she faced with Netflix over sharing Season 4 images.

Safiyya Ingar, who plays the Temerian sorceress Keira Metz in The Witcher and was introduced in Season 3, is among the many returning cast members alongside Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer and Freya Allan’s Ciri. In an interview with ScreenRant at the Sundance Film Festival, where she was promoting her movie, Brides, Ingar spoke about the highly anticipated fourth season and recalled the incident where she posted a picture from the set at the start of production.

I can’t! They’ve got us in a chokehold so hard, I could say one word and there goes my NDA; my phone’ll blow up.

I remember I got in so much trouble. I can say this because, technically, people already know, but we went in for stunt training mid-last year. I posted a picture of the prop swords, and it was just an ambiguous little thing. There was no indication of anything in there. I was just like, “We’re back.” And everyone knew we started filming, so it was fine.

But I got a call… It was not fine! “Hello, you need to take that down.” I was like, “Hello, who is this? “You need to take that off your social media. There’s been a security breach. The news tabloids have got ahold of it.” And I was just like, “But it’s a box of swords! The Witcher carries a sword!”

Netflix Refuses to Give Away Any ‘The Witcher’ Spoilers… Yet

One of the primary reasons fans have been captivated by The Witcher, besides the remarkable world-building, non-linear storytelling, and occasional monster hunting, is undoubtedly Henry Cavill’s portrayal of the gruff yet compelling Geralt of Rivia. When news broke that Cavill would be stepping away from the role due to creative differences, the fan base was understandably shaken. But all eyes turned to Liam Hemsworth, who has been tasked with filling Cavill’s shoes.

Netflix has since remained tight-lipped about the details surrounding the upcoming season, including the plot and the cast. With no release date set yet, fans will likely have to wait until a trailer drops to mine any worthy information and get a glimpse of Hemsworth in action. Speaking of which, Ingar made sure to tease how Hemsworth looks as the new Witcher.

“But what I can say is that Liam looks great. That’s it. That’s all I can say.”

While the recasting news left many viewers divided and given the time since the announcement, fans have begun to process that change. It also helps that co-stars and executive producers of the show are suggesting that Hemsworth has the potential to embody the character with the same depth and physicality as Cavill. But only time will tell how the Season 4 narrative will unfold and how the new Geralt will leave his mark on the Continent.
