Prince Andrew’s Royal Lodge falls into disrepair with mould and cracks after King ‘axes £1m allowance’

The Royal Lodge appears to have been left in a state of disrepair by Prince Andrew, new pictures show.

Black mould, damp, and cracked paintwork have begun to appear around the exterior of the 31-bed mansion in Windsor, which is valued at an estimated £31 million. Visible weathering can be seen on the outside walls of the house, as well as the outbuildings and the gatehouse.

The Duke of York has lived at the property since 2003, when it was gifted to him following the death of the Queen Mother. The new photos come after it was revealed King Charles has reportedly cut off Andrew’s £1 million-a-year allowance following months of tensions between the two brothers. The King is said to have instructed The Keeper of the Privy Purse to stop the sum being paid.

N.C)Since coming to the throne, King Charles is said to have made repeated requests for Andrew to vacate the lodge and move into the smaller Frogmore Cottage, formerly home to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. But the Duke of York has vowed to stay put in his home despite his £1million-a-year budget finally being removed, and a source told The Sun on Sunday that he “is determined to stay in the Royal Lodge”. He is also said to have insisted that he still has enough money to afford his seven-figure private security bill after the King stopped providing royal finances towards it. Andrew’s home is located within the ‘ring of steel’ that surrounds Windsor Castle, but he also has security personnel of his own.

In an updated version of his book, ‘Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story’, author Robert Hardman writes that Andrew will also have to cover the cost of protecting several valuable and historical works of art and pieces of furniture borrowed from the Royal Collection. In the new chapters, is also claimed that Queen Elizabeth III would have forced Andrew to leave the Royal Lodge if she had lived another year.

Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on the book’s claims. Since being removed as a working royal in May 2020, the Duke of York has been stripped of his charity patronages and military associations, and is effectively barred from using his HRH title in public.
