“I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it,” Fury said on Instagram

Tyson Fury, lineal & WBC Heavyweight Boxing World Champion gives an interview to the media

Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury is hanging up his gloves — again.

Fury, 36, announced on Monday, Jan. 13 that he is once again done with the world of boxing, via a video on Instagram.

“Hi everybody, I am going to make this short and sweet. I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it. And I am going to end with this: Dirk Turpin wore a mask,” Fury said to his followers in a video recorded from his car.

Fury was next scheduled to fight rival Anthony Joshua this summer.

Tyson Fury Retires

Fury’s decision comes just after he lost to Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk in their world heavyweight championship rematch on Dec. 22 in Saudi Arabia.

In preparation for that match, Fury revealed that he cut off all contact with his wife, Paris Fury, and their seven children for three months.

“I’ve been away from my wife and kids for three months. I’ve not spoken to Paris at all in three months,” Fury told Dev Sahni in an interview prior to the fight. “I’ve sacrificed a lot.”

The couple, who were the subject of the Netflix docuseries At Home With the Furys, are parents to three daughters (Venezuela, 15; Valencia, 7; and Athena, 3) and four sons (Prince John James, 13; Prince Tyson, 8; Prince Adonis Amaziah, 5; and a boy, 1, whose name they have not shared publicly).

After Usyk, 37,  was announced as the winner by unanimous decision, Fury stormed out of the ring, as shown in video footage released by The Sun.

In a post-fight interview, as reported by U.K. newspaper Express, Fury addressed the loss.  “I swear to God, I thought I won by three rounds! I thought I won the fight again … I was on the front foot the entire time. When you don’t get the knockout, this is what can happen,” he said.

In a later press conference following the fight, Fury said “I feel like I won both fights. I know I had to knock him out but it’s boxing and this happens. There is no doubt in my mind I won this fight … I’m not going to cry over spilled milk, it’s over now.”

“I’ve been in boxing my whole life but I’ll always feel a little bit hard done by — not a little bit, a lot,” he added.

Fury previously announced his retirement back in April 2022.

“I promised my lovely wife Paris of 14 years that after the [Deyonte] Wilder III fight, that would be it — and I meant it,” he said at the time in a clip shared on X by BT Sport.
