‘One day I’m going to break your record’: Giannis fulfills the promise he made to Michael Redd, scores a Bucks franchise-high 64 points
As Giannis Antetokounmpo broke a 17-year-old franchise record Wednesday at Fiserv Forum, video began circulating of a promise he made to the previous record-holder in 2021.
With his 64-point performance against the Pacers in a 140-126 win, Antetokounmpo set the single-game franchise scoring record and made good on the pledge he made to Michael Redd, whose 57 points on Nov. 11, 2006, had stood as the Milwaukee Bucks’ franchise record until Wednesday.
Antetokounmpo had a light-hearted moment with Redd as he left the court following an April 2021 game, captured on the Milwaukee Bucks’ Twitter account.
Antetokounmpo gave a hug to Redd and told him, “One day, one day I’m going to break your record. It might take a few years.”

“I got lucky one night,” Redd responded. “I got lucky.”
Antetokounmpo: “Hopefully I can get lucky one night, too.”
Redd: “You will.”
Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a career-high and franchise single-game record 64 points in Wednesday’s 140-126 win over the Indiana Pacers.
And he was right. Redd’s effort in a loss to the Utah Jazz now falls to No. 2, with three performances of 55 points tied for third, one by Antetokounmpo in January, one from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a famous showing by rookie Brandon Jennings in 2009.
Redd racked up 42 points in the second half against the Jazz that night, but Redd’s final three-pointer didn’t go down, and the Bucks had to settle for a 113-111 loss.
Whenever Giannis heard about Michael Redd’s franchise high 57 vs Utah, he would always whisper, “I will beat that.”
