The Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has quickly risen through the ranks of the NBA and has now established himself as one of the premier players in the league.
However, the Greek superstar has made it clear on numerous occasion that nothing was more important to him than his family while the young forward was growing up.
In fact, the now 28-year-old loves his family dearly, notably his father. Therefore, when his father passed away in 2017, it affected him deeply.
Recently, the Bucks superstar made a somber admission about his father and family on live TV.
The seven-time All-Star’s father, Charles Antetokounmpo died of a heart attack in September 2017.
So it has been a long time since his father passed away. Therefore, the Greek Freak decided to spill some beans on what tough conditions he experienced growing up with his father.
Antetokounmpo appeared on The Daily Show recently to have a chat with guest host Hassan Minaj.
During the conversation, the Bucks forward spoke about his family and how he grew up.
He said, “I wouldn’t be in this position that I’ve seen today without my family… without the sacrifice that my parents made every single day to provide for us…”
The 28-year-old continued, “Obviously, it’s been six years now, 2017 – six years that my dad have passed away, and it’s in honor of him. And as I’ve said in the past and I’ve said a lot of times, he had no money, he was poor.”
“He came from Nigeria to have a better life, and we were his legacy. And I could feel like growing up like he was the richest person in the neighborhood because he always felt rich because he had us.”
However, now the times have changed and the Greek Freak and his family have eradicated the poverty they faced previously. In fact, the seven-time All-Star has a net worth of $11o million, which is certainly more than enough to provide the necessary things for his family. The family that once struggled to make ends meet now has generational wealth.
