And they say cheerleaders are pointless. The New York Knicks have a star-powered hype team in the house that spurred the Julius Randle squad further. It was effective enough that it brought the Victor Wembanyama train to a halt in his MSG debut. Wemby matched Shaquille O’Neal’s rookie record in his first five career games and he was hoping to continue his hot pursuit of reviving the Spurs. The Knicks came in the way though.

Carmelo Anthony was one of the most recent Knicks players in their old stomping grounds. He was joined by more legends who saw their old team’s triumph today. Of course, Knicks nation couldn’t just let these superstar supporters go by unnoticed. Fans were over the moon to see the legends among them.

Knicks stars gather in Madison Square Garden for Wembanyama’s debut

The Knicks were up against the San Antonio Spurs and their newest powerhouse, Victor Wembanyama. He’s coming off a record-breaking streak in his NBA debut. But so are the Knicks. They stole the show from James Harden in his Clippers debut and now put the brakes on the Wemby hype train.

The Knicks won 126-105 over the Spurs against most odds. Perhaps it was the boost of confidence from the franchise legends in the house. Multiple Knicks stars were at the game to watch their old team and Wemby’s MSG debut.

Carmelo Anthony with his college-bound son, Kiyan Anthony, were courtside. While Melo was getting praised by the crowd, Kiyan would rather capture the scene on the big screens with his phone.

Stealing Melo’s show was Walt Frazier, looking still snazzy in a cool biker jacket. His fashion statement was the scene-stealer undeniably. But fans are also crossing their fingers hoping this means the team is officially keeping him to call every Knicks game.

Not to be outdone were Knicks’ iconic duo, Spree and Camby, individually recognized as Latrell Sprewell and Marcus Camby. Unlike Walt, they kept it subtle in understated dad fashion. They’re not only taking fans back to the glory days, their presence gave the team a much-needed boost to brake the Spurs dominance.

Carmelo Anthony is loyal to the Knicks

Like Spree and Camby, Melo has also played in multiple teams. But somewhere New York has a special place in his life. He’s hoping the feeling is mutual. While the Denver Nuggets are considering retiring his number, Anthony expressed his desire to see his jersey up in the MSG rafters.

It would mean a lot to see the Knicks retire his jersey. In the meantime he’s enjoying the post-NBA life and gearing to be an empty-nester soon. Kiyan was at the game today amid the college tours with his parents. There’s talk of him suiting up in Syracuse Orange like his dad.

The Knicks legacy was clearly shining at MSG today. And it was enough to dazzle the Spurs dead in their tracks. What are your thoughts on this star-studded Knicks attendance?
