Bryon Scott coached several NBA All-Stars and has anointed two rookies this season as guys to watch

FORMER NBA star Byron Scott has played and coached some of the best players ever to touch the court, and he believes two rookies this season are set to take over in years to come.

The 62-year-old ex-member of the Los Angeles “Showtime” Lakers and longtime NBA coach dubs Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren as the next “faces of this league.”

The U.S. Sun spoke to the former NBA star and now sports analyst at Metta World Peace’s inaugural charity golf event about his thoughts on the two dynamic 7-foot rookies:

“Both are very exciting rookies that I think are gonna be faces of this league in about the next five to ten years.”

However, Scott holds Holmgren slightly ahead of Wembanyama since he was drafted a year ahead despite missing the year with an injury.

He also expressed that Holmgren plays on a better team with the Oklahoma City Thunder than Wembanyama, who’s in a rebuild situation with the San Antonio Spurs.

“Chet, I think, is a little bit ahead of him. He’s ahead of Victor right now in the race for the Rookie of the Year.

“Not, not just because of the way he’s playing, but because of the way their team is playing as well.

“So if you take a look at Victor in San Antonio right now, I think they’re two, three wins, or four wins, something like that. You know, so he’s still got a ways to go.

“But, both guys are exciting because I’ve never seen guys at that length and that height be able to do the things that they do,” Scott said to The U.S Sun.

Holgren is averaging 17 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks a game to help kickstart the Thunder’s 15-7 record, while Wembanyama has put up a stellar 18.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks a game, but the Spurs have struggled to win games and have a 3-19 record.

Scott knows a little something about talent as he played with a laundry list of stars in his 14-year NBA career.

He won three championships with NBA All-time greats Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson.

Scott was a vital member of the Showtime Lakers as he started next to Johnson for multiple seasons during their championship runs in 1985, 1987, and 1988.

And that was no easy feat, as the Lakers were loaded with a talented roster in the 1980s with multiple NBA Hall of Famers — James Worthy, Jamaal Wilkes, and Bob McAdoo graced the team, in addition to Johnson and Abdul-Jabbar.

They also had solid rotational pieces in Michael Cooper, Kurt Rambis, and AC Green.

Scott used the experience he had from playing in the NBA for three franchises alongside multiple stars to a coaching gig after retiring from the game in 1997.

He started coaching with the Sacramento Kings in 1998, then had a multi-year stint with the New Jersey Nets, where he navigated them to an NBA finals appearance loss to a Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant-led Lakers.

Scott would go on to coach the New Orleans Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Lakers in an 18-year coaching career.

Throughout that time, Scott was able to coach several NBA icons. He coached All-time great Kobe Bryant and perennial All-Stars Jason Kidd, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, and Baron Davis.
