Throughout Victor Wembanyama’s meteoric rise to the NBA, his parents and siblings have been supporting him along his journey.
The rookie’s parents, Félix Wembanyama and Elodie de Fautereau, raised him in France, along with his sister, Eve, and brother, Oscar. The three siblings bonded over their shared love of sports and appreciation for their family. It was Félix and Elodie who encouraged their children to participate and find their own passion in sports, and all three Wembanyama siblings picked up basketball.
When Victor was drafted No. 1 overall by the San Antonio Spurs at the 2023 NBA Draft, he had his parents and siblings by his side. Ahead of draft night, Victor told PEOPLE that his father would likely be the most emotional when his name gets called. “It’ll probably be my dad. I think he’s not going to show it, but he will be,” the athlete said.
Following his selection into the NBA, Victor made his rookie debut on Oct. 25, 2023.
From their shared love of basketball to their life in France, here’s everything to know about Victor Wembanyama’s family: parents Félix Wembanyama and Elodie de Fautereau and siblings Eve Wembanyama and Oscar Wembanyama.
Félix and Elodie were athletes

Félix was a track and field star who excelled in the high jump. He taught his children the sport and how to run, which helped them succeed in other activities properly.
“You know, there’s a correct way of running. And he taught me things like that,” Victor told EuroLeague Basketball of his father. “And actually, I was actually part of a track and field team, like for a year around 10 or 11.”
Elodie was also a professional basketball player and introduced her children to the sport. “She’s more like me. We really look alike, and she’s kind of eccentric sometimes,” Victor told Slam magazine in 2022.
Victor’s brother, Oscar, eventually made his way onto the court, too. “I played very little basketball, just with my mother because she organized training courses for children. I got into it in a club last year,” Oscar told EuroLeague Basketball in 2023. “I had been considering doing it for a year.”

Félix and Elodie’s first child, daughter Eve, was born on Dec. 10, 2001. Victor, the middle child, was born on Jan. 4, 2004, followed by the youngest, Oscar, on March 18, 2007.
While Victor is a staggering 7 feet, 3 ½ inches tall, his siblings also boast impressive heights: Eve is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and Oscar is 6 feet, 5 inches.
“I mean, I had the choice and I still have the choice to play or not play basketball, but basketball has always been around. I can’t avoid it in my family,” Victor told Slam of how much the sport meant to his family.
They’re from France

The Wembanyama children grew up in a small town named Le Chesnay, France, not far from Paris. While Félix is from Congo, Elodie was also raised in France. The country has a lot of meaning for the family, and moving to the United States to play in the NBA was quite a shock for the rookie. Victor told Robin Roberts on Good Morning America that one of the things he would miss most about France was the food.
“I’m going to find a way to bring some European and French food over there,” he told Roberts.
Victor later shared that he wants to play for his home country at the 2024 Paris Olympics. “Performing well at the Olympics would be a great story,” Wembanyama told French media, according to the Associated Press. “I’ll be present at the Olympics, and there’s no other goal than gold.”

Over the years, Eve has played on numerous basketball teams, including LDLC ASVEL of Lyon, France, for EuroLeague Women. She competed in the FIBA U20 Women’s European Challengers competition in 2021 and the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship in 2017, according to the International Basketball Federation.
“My sister and my brother were both French champions, and that was my goal from the start of the season, even though I was just starting basketball,” Oscar told EuroLeague Basketball. “It was incredible, I felt proud of course, and it was the accomplishment of my whole season. Especially for my first year.”

“There was a period when I was not doing anything because of COVID, and that emptiness pushed me to do something new, so I turned to basketball,” he shared with EuroLeague.
In 2021, Oscar joined his brother’s former club team, Nanterre 92, and the team won the French U15 title. In 2022, he began playing for LDLC ASVEL’s U18 team.
Eve was also a big inspiration for Oscar. He shared that he watched “all of her games” and there was “too little talk” about her. “There are things that inspire me about her, especially the intensity that she puts on the floor,” he added. “She is incredible.”
Oscar wants to make his own legacy

Oscar is a budding basketball player and has proven his skills every step of the way. In 2023, he addressed how his brother’s notoriety affected him.
“My big brother taught me a lot of things, and he fulfilled his role as a big brother very well for me,” Oscar told EuroLeague Basketball. “He knows how to manage all the attention he has on him very well.”
The youngest Wembanyama sibling also noted that Victor had been popular for some time, and it was “nothing new” to him.
“I don’t particularly feel in his shadow. My goal is not to do exactly like him but to write my own story, as beautiful as possible,” he said. “The only pressure I receive is from others who give it to me, from constantly being compared to [Victor], and all the questions I am asked about him. People sometimes see me only as Victor’s brother, and that’s not the case.”
Elodie coached basketball

Victor told EuroLeague Basketball that his mother taught Little League and youth basketball. While she coached Victor as a child, Elodie took a step back when he began pursuing a basketball career.
“It’s not that she doesn’t want to get involved in my performance, but she knows her role,” he told EuroLeague Basketball. “You know what I mean? And she knows as a parent sometimes it’s better to fade off or not to get too much involved in your children’s path.”
He later told GMA: “They really didn’t interfere with my sport. They let me be how I wanted to be. They made a lot of sacrifices. On the other hand, they’re gonna be able to retire early.”

On June 22, 2023, the San Antonio Spurs selected Victor as the first overall pick in the 77th annual NBA Draft. His parents, brother and sister were all present for the televised event to support him.
Eve, Victor and Oscar spoke to ESPN after the event, sharing their reactions to learning that Victor was officially an NBA player.
“That’s amazing. We are all so proud,” Eve said. “We are very happy for you, we are happy for the family, for the friends, for everything, for the basketball — that’s so amazing.”
Oscar added, “With the first pick and everything, I got little tears in my eyes,” and the siblings shared a group hug.
