Steph Curry en France

Rawel Visual

Absent from the FIBA scene for almost a decade, Stephen Curry has already expressed his desire to return to the American selection for the Paris Olympic Games. He has just spoken out again on the subject with a major clarification.

At almost 36 years old, he still remains among the elite of the league. Stephen Curry is once again having an excellent start to the season on the NBA floor, averaging 30.7 points and starting off on historic bases in terms of 3-point shots scored. However, he was recently stopped in his tracks by a physical problem, on which the Warriors have partially lifted the veil in recent hours:

Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who sat out Tuesday night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves because of sore right knee, underwent an MRI to determine the nature of his injury. The MRI revealed no structural damage. (…) Curry will not play Thursday’s game against Oklahoma City (right knee pain) and will be re-evaluated later this week.

Steph Curry candidly on his participation in the Paris Olympics

Certainly unavailable at the moment for Golden State, Curry intends to return to the field quickly and stay away from the infirmary until next summer. He has in fact made clear his intention to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with Team USA. To the point of giving up on the ACC golf tournament where he shone and which he won last July? A question he answered in Dubs Talk:

There will be no dilemma for me. The tournament will be there every year. Paris 2024, no. So it’s an easy decision.

An easy decision, certainly, but one that nevertheless causes pain for the golf enthusiast that he is. In any case, the Chef still has time and other things to do before bringing this reflection to fruition:

I don’t know what next summer’s schedule will look like. For now, I’m focusing on the present. But I’ve said before that I want to play in the Olympics and do whatever it takes to be ready and take part in the training camp and the preparation and all that.

The priority of the star leader therefore seems clear, even if he does not yet completely close the door to a defense of his title on the greens of Lake Tahoe:

What’s cool is that I know the coach (Steve Kerr, editor’s note) well. So maybe he’ll give me a little three-day break to rest and recharge at Lake Tahoe before I join the team. (Laughs) We’ll have to discuss it. In any case, what I can say is that the quest for an Olympic gold medal would be the only valid reason for me not to go to Tahoe.

Determined to go to Paris next summer with Team USA, Stephen Curry will undoubtedly have to miss the ACC Tournament which he has become accustomed to playing every year. A sacrifice that he seems ready to make… not without a little bitterness.
