Former teammates on the St. Vincent-St. Mary team, James and Carter took different career paths, but nevertheless remained close.

This explains the resonance taken by the Wayne Nix affair, in which Carter’s involvement has just been revealed by the Washington Post.

Without further ado, the latter’s spokesperson, Adam Mendehlson, issued a press release on the subject for ESPN:

In 2021 and before 38 states and the District of Columbia legalized sports betting, Mavericks Carter was once questioned by federal law enforcement as part of an investigation into Wayne Nix. Mr.

Carter was not the target of the investigation, cooperated, was never charged and has not been contacted since on this subject.

Wayne Nix, who worked in Minor League Baseball, was found guilty of running an illegal sports betting business. Business in which Mav Carter took part by placing bets ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 on NBA and NFL games.

If his friend ultimately received no sentence, LeBron could therefore fear possible repercussions on his image. What he recently denied to Jovan Buha:

No, it didn’t worry me because the only reason it made headlines was because he’s close to me. But Maverick is responsible for his actions and at the end of the day, betting is legal. I mean, you can go on your phone right now and bet on whatever you want. Plus, he’s not affiliated with the NBA or NFL, so he can do whatever he wants.

A simple business partner of LeBron James, Maverick Carter therefore does not risk any sanctions from the NBA, nor from the American justice system for his role in the Wayne Nix affair. A file which does not seem to concern the King regarding its fallout.
