‘GAY HAS TO PLAY’ NBA superstar who has earned $180m in career earnings still unemployed month after being cut as fans demand he’s signed

This NBA forward averaged a career-best 21.1 points per game in one season.

AN NBA veteran has still remained without a job after being released close to a month ago.

37-year-old forward Rudy Gay, who was cut by the Golden State Warriors on October 21, is available for NBA teams — and fans are demanding he’s signed.

A 17-year NBA veteran, Gay signed a one-year contract with the Warriors on September 28, only to be waived less than a month later prior to the start of the 2023 season.

He played the last two seasons with the Utah Jazz, appearing in 111 games.

Gay averaged only 6.7 points and under 40% from the field during his Salt Lake City stint.

In July, he was traded, along with a conditional 2026 second-round pick, to the Atlanta Hawks for John Collins.

Five days later, Gay was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of a deal for sharpshooter Patty Mills before being waived on July 20.

The Warriors would land the 37-year-old in September.

Gay has been in the NBA since 2006.

He played with the Memphis Grizzlies for his first seven seasons, recording at least 18 points per game in six of those campaigns.

In 2013, Gay led both the Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors in scoring in the same season after being included in a trade.

The following season, he averaged a career-best 21.1 points per game.

Gay spent four years with the San Antonio Spurs from 2017-21 before joining the Jazz.

Over his career, the veteran has earned $180 million.

Gay hasn’t averaged over 10 points per game since the 2020 season.

Still, NBA fans think that he should be given a role for a team.

One commented: “Lakers can sign Rudy Gay.”

Another wrote: “Gay has to play.”

A third stated: “Clippers need to sign Rudy Gay unless he’s super out of shape.”
