NBA Victor Wembanyama et Shaquille O'Neal

Very talkative given his role as an analyst at TNT, Shaquille O’Neal has therefore gotten into the habit of talking about the Victor Wembanyama case.

He also recently returned to his controversial comments about the Frenchman… which he maintained.

If Victor Wembanyama is considered the future face of the NBA, it is obviously because of his unique abilities for a player of his size. Indeed, the 2m24 French giant has such unrealistic technical and athletic qualities that the media hype surrounding him has become historic.

Because for many observers and fans, he has everything to become one of the best all-time players.

Even before setting foot on the courts of the league for the first time, compliments were already raining down on the Spurs rookie.

However, Shaquille O’Neal was less enthusiastic when giving his feelings on the 1st pick of the last Draft… and comparing him to Bol Bol. A comparison which earned him strong criticism, but which he fully accepted when discussing it for Sports Illustrated.

Shaq persists and signs on Victor Wembanyama

Robin Lundberg: Regarding Wemby, are you ready to retract your comments about Bol Bol or not at all?

Shaquille O’Neal: No, I don’t intend to because if you listened to what I said… I said you were acting like Wemby was the first player over 2m20 to dribble d from one end of the court to the other, dribbling between his legs and shooting three-pointers. This is not the case !

It was Bol Bol who was the first to do so. I never compared it to Bol Bol. I just said you act like you’ve never seen this before, but you have. You saw Bol Bol do it before him.

Thus, for O’Neal, the controversy surrounding his comments towards Wemby would have no reason to exist, since it would result from a simple misunderstanding.

He thus explains that he does not consider that the qualities of the two young interiors are equivalent.

On the other hand, certain feats of Wemby, described as unique by some, would have already been achieved by Bol Bol. Suffice it to say that the former star pivot does not intend to change his position anytime soon on this subject, he who had even posted a video on Instagram to support his speech a few weeks earlier.

Victor Wembanyama has obviously become one of Shaquille O’Neal’s favorite topics of debate. However, do not count on him to return to his comments involving the Frenchman and Bol Bol, which he will apparently maintain until his grave.
