NBA – Saved from a 28-year prison sentence, a protégé of LeBron cash: “I…

La superstar NBA des Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James (gauche) et le top-prospect Mikey Williams (droite)

In addition to seeing his son Bronny return to competition after his cardiac arrest, LeBron James was treated to another piece of very good news recently. A nugget that he had taken under his wing has indeed just escaped a very heavy sentence, the player in question reacting immediately after the announcement of the verdict.

We are certainly still far away, but the 2024 and 2025 draft vintages already look promising. Next summer, we should see nuggets like Matas Buzelis, the French Alexandre Sarr and Zaccharie Risacher or even Bronny James arrive in the big league. As for the following year, however, one of the biggest prospects had seen his future seriously darken recently.

In this case, we are talking here about Mikey Williams who was to make his debut at the University of Memphis. Talented to the point where LeBron James had decided to make him his little protégé, the young winger was promised a brilliant future… until he found himself before the American court of justice, risking a prison sentence of up to at 28 years old, he was facing six charges including armed robbery.

Mikey Williams escapes very heavy sentence

For several weeks, we had been kept in suspense regarding the outcome of his trial but rather miraculously, Williams got away without too many consequences after pleading guilty to having uttered threats during the incident. He will thus escape imprisonment and his crime will be transformed into a simple misdemeanor and without much surprise, he showed relief when leaving the court:

It’s over. I feel good, brother. Praise God, I’m glad I got out of that situation. I can’t wait to get back on the field.

We easily understand the nugget, although we do not know if he will be able to play with the Tigers in 2023-24. On the other hand, he shouldn’t have to worry too much about his professional career.

It is not so rare that players who have committed serious misdeeds in university or high school are still guaranteed to join the NBA, as long as their talent is high enough. Just like Brandon Miller last year when he was directly linketo a murder case, Mikey Williams is announced as a top prospect and managers will consider that as a priority. Even if it’s not to the fans’ taste…

This guy has to make a one-way trip to China and play overseas.

Mikey Williams came close to living most of his life behind bars, but he ultimately got off easy.

On the other hand, we do not know when he will play for Memphis University at this time.

His future in the NBA should not be in danger, however, when we remember the Brandon Miller affair a few months ago…
