Authors of an encouraging start to the season, the Spurs have not tasted victory for 10 games and occupy the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

A context which pushed the Texans to take matters into their own hands… without their coach.

Everything had started so well. After five games this season, the Spurs surprisingly posted a positive record (3-2) and even had two victories obtained away from home against the Suns.

Victor Wembanyama then came out of a 38-point match and already seemed able to take his team to unexpected places. However, the rest of the events proved less encouraging.

Since this ultimate success in Phoenix, Gregg Popovich’s men have not won a single match.

This Wednesday, they suffered their 10th defeat in a row against the Clippers, while their coach broke down in the middle of the game and achieved something never seen before.

Suffice to say that the situation is now relatively alarming for the franchise and its players, who are not, however, remaining idle.

The strong gesture of the Spurs without Gregg Popovich

Even if they did not claim to be aiming for the title this season, the young Spurs thought they were capable of making a better start than the one they are offering their fans. Their desire to do better has also been reflected in their recent actions.

Thus, according to Hector Ledesma of ClutchPoints, they organized a meeting between players last weekend, which Devin Vassell recently confirmed:

Devin Vassell: There are a lot of reasons that explain the period we are going through that I don’t want to talk about now. We discussed it during the meeting we had. We raised a lot of topics, and I think things will change as the season progresses.

Zach Collins was more talkative regarding the progress of this meeting, which he tried to play down:

Zach Collins: “Player meeting” sounds a little dramatic. It’s not like everyone was yelling at each other and getting frustrated.

When I came into the league, I was with a lot of veterans and they talked a lot.

Young players, myself included, sometimes it’s more difficult to talk when things aren’t going well. So it was more of an opportunity for everyone to speak and say what we see.

Faced with the terrible situation they have been going through since the beginning of November, the Spurs decided to say things to each other’s faces during a meeting reserved for the workforce.

Unfortunately for them and for Gregg Popovich, the effects of this initiative have yet to be seen.
