NBA – How terrible is the Wemby effect? Wembanyama’s huge impact at Spurs: “Nearly $1.5 billion”..

A true darling of San Antonio since his arrival, Victor Wembanyama is already changing everything there. His performances and his constant media coverage do wonders for the franchise’s finances. Since it has been present in Texas, the numbers have literally soared.

For some, he didn’t do enough in his NBA debut. But in fact, Victor Wembanyama is far from ridiculous with more than 19 points, 8 rebounds and two blocks per game. Yet not helped by the Spurs’ collective system, especially since he is sometimes snubbed by his teammates, the pivot still shines with some big individual bursts, like during the recent defeat against Miami.

Whatever his detractors may think, the V remains a boon for his franchise. After years of struggle, having squatted in the depths of the Western Conference since the end of their Duncan-Parker-Ginobili Big Three, the Texans are finally starting to hope again. It will take a little time to start stringing together victories, but Frnaçis alone already represents very solid foundations.

Spurs’ value explodes since Wembanyama’s arrival

But in addition to already having a great impact on the field, particularly in defense where he is very impressive, Wemby can boast of directly influencing San Antonio’s finances. Sold as a potential candidate for the GOAT at just 19 years old, he constitutes a huge phenomenon of attraction and this is clearly seen in the figures, as the prestigious Forbes magazine recently showed:

The value of the Spurs franchise according to Forbes: $3.25 billion in 2023 versus $2 billion in 2022. The Woj wasn’t lying about the Wemby effect 👀

We are talking here about a jump of 63% for the Éperons (1.25 billion), an incredible progression in just 12 months while their collective results are mediocre. The Habs are obviously no stranger to this and their impact on SA’s marketing is significant, the latter being estimated at a value of $873 million alone. Once the player rolls around the league, this figure should explode once again.

Last May, Adrian Wojnarowski explained that the arrival of Victor Wembanyama could bring $500 million alone to Spurs. For the moment, the famous insider’s predictions seem to be completely true. Just imagine what it will look like once the pivot is at 100% capacity!
