Victor Wembanyama en conférence de presse pour les Spurs

Small consolation prize after a defeat, but Victor Wembanyama still made NBA history this Friday against the Bulls. Asked about this feat, the Frenchman reacted with honesty after overtaking Dwight Howard.

Among the last in the entire NBA, the Spurs are having a relatively difficult season in the West. The tank is clearly out, while Gregg Popovich takes the opportunity to continue the experiments. After placing Jeremy Sochan in a leadership role, without success given this sequence, it was Victor Wembanyama who was moved to the pivot position. And that’s already something else.

With a unique performance in the history of the NBA, Wemby confirms that he is very comfortable in this pivotal role. He captured no less than 20 rebounds, and allowed his other teammates to have more space on the floor. A configuration that Popovich will certainly want to continue over time, and Victor fully approves at the press conference.

Wembanyama honest about his achievement

The Frenchman still achieved quite a success in this role, although the defeat spoiled the party. This is what he explained at the press conference:

Wembanyama joined Dwight Howard as the only players (under-21) to record 20 points and 20 rebounds in a game.

“It doesn’t really have value in a defeat, but it’s definitely an achievement. I hope one day I can look back on it and consider it a good performance.”

It must be said that Wemby is a winner, which means that this achievement is not of great value given Spurs’ losing streak.

Asked a little later about this famous series, the former Mets did not hide his frustration:

Wembanyama: “Of course it does something to me. Everything is going well in my life, but this is the only downside for the moment. Of course it’s hard, I feel the difficulty, but I never feel defeated. Let’s just say you have to be patient. There is no other choice.”

Known for his competitive mentality, Victor Wembanyama is understandably frustrated with what is happening in San Antonio today. To the point where he can’t really enjoy his achievement. The rest of the season unfortunately promises to be difficult for him.
