The news was broken on X, formerly known as Twitter, shortly before the game.

James’ absence is down to a left calf contusion, according to NBA TV.

As such, NBA fans will have to wait to see James, 38, take on one of the most promising young players in recent memory – 19-year-old Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.

James should have recovered in time to face San Antonio on Friday, according to Sports Illustrated.

Currently, in his 21st NBA season, James has averaged 25.3 points, 6.7 assists, and 7.5 rebounds in 23 games.

He also recently added to his already overflowing trophy cabinet when the Lakers were crowned the inaugural In-Season Tournament champions in Las Vegas.

They beat the Indiana Pacers 123-109, with James contributing 24 points.

James was also named the Tournament’s MVP.

Teammate Anthony Davis, however, stole the show during the final, scoring 41 points while also racking up 20 rebounds.

Davis is set to play on Wednesday against the Spurs.

French starlet Wembanyama is also scheduled to take to the court at the AT&T Center.

In 21 games this season, the 7-foot-4 first-overall pick has averaged 18.8 points, 2.6 assists, and 10.6 rebounds.
