“I will marry dad” – Muggsy Bogues reveals the unbelievable secret, and explains why Dell Curry is a better shooter than Steph Curry

Both were great shooters, but Muggsy knows Steph wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Dell.

When asked who is the better shooter between the two, most NBA fans would flat-out pick Steph Curry over his dad Dell. However, that was never the case for former Charlotte Hornets point guard Muggsy Bogues.

According to Muggsy, he may be biased, but he would always go for Dell as he was the one who gave Steph all that shooting DNA.

“They both have got quick releases, but I’ll take the daddy, cause that’s where it started,” Bogues told Mass Live in 2015.

Muggsy says Dell’s stroke was unreal

Bogues’ choice was no surprise, as he and Dell played alongside each other in Charlotte for ten years. They were two of the first Hornets players when the team initially entered the NBA as an expansion franchise, and they were the last Hornets players to be traded.

But bias aside, Bogues said that both Dell and Steph are faultless in their shooting abilities. However, Dell’s stroke was just out-of-this-world.

“Steph is a better off the dribble shooter than Dell, but on a catch-and-shoot, man Dell got a stroke that’s unbelievable,” Bogues analyzed.

AI picked Dell too

Like Bogues, Allen Iverson was also aware of how lethal shooter Dell was during his playing days in the NBA. As a shooting guard, AI had his fair share of matchups with Dell, and he also once compared Steph’s shooting abilities to his father’s.

As Iverson recalled, Steph was undeniably a beast in both dribbling and shooting. Nonetheless, “The Answer” reckoned that Dell could fire away faster than his son.

“He’s official! But his release ain’t quicker than Dell’s. I know—I had to guard him,” Iverson once said of Dell and Steph’s shooting. “How good is this dude [Steph] where you can’t decide what’s better, his handle or his jump shot? He’s a bad boy.”

It’s understandable that players from Dell’s era pick him over his son Steph. However, it’s undeniable that “Chef Curry” revolutionized three-point shooting on basketball’s biggest stage.

Numbers-wise, Steph edged his dad as he is now the GOAT of three-point shooting, having set the record for most three-pointers made in the NBA. But on the other hand, Dell was also impressive as a three-pointer as he finished his 16-year NBA career averaging 40.2% from deep. Not bad for a player who peaked in the 90s.

In conclusion, both Steph and Dell will go down as two of the greatest shooters of all time, but Bogues was right – there would be no Steph if it weren’t for Dell.
