Cardi B has recently become more outspoken about the #MeToo movement in the hip-hop sphere, a segment of the music industry she feels hasn’t yet been impacted by women’s stories. The rapper sat down with Angie Martinez, the host of WE tv’s Untold Stories of Hip Hop, for an upcoming episode to discuss the time she was sexually harassed during a magazine photo shoot.

“I will never forget how I went to shoot for this magazine and like the photographer, he was trying to get close to me,” the Invasion of Privacy artist said. “Like, ‘Yeah, you want to get into this magazine?’ And he pulled his dick out. I was so fucking mad.”

She later recalled how she abruptly left the shoot because of his inappropriate behavior. “You know what’s so crazy? I told the magazine owner, and he just looked at me like, ‘So? And?’” she told Martinez. “When I see the #MeToo movement, there’s girls from the ‘hood, I know they went through the same type of treatment. … It happens really every day.”
Despite describing it as a daily occurrence, Cardi B believes sexual harassment “for women whose sexuality is at the forefront of their commercial appeal” mainly goes without acknowledgment, according to her Cosmopolitan interview from March 2018. Back then, she opened up about the same incident at the magazine shoot.

“A lot of video vixens have spoke about this, and nobody gives a fuck,” she said at the time. “When I was trying to be a vixen, people were like, ‘You want to be on the cover of this magazine?’ Then they pull their dicks out. I bet if one of these women stands up and talks about it, people are going to say, ‘So what? You’re a ho. It don’t matter.’”

When Martinez asked the 26-year-old artist if harassment at this level still happens to her, she confidently responded, “Oh hell no. I’ll put you on blast on my Instagram.”

Watch the interview clip below. The rest of Cardi B’s episode of Untold Stories of Hip Hop will air Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on WE tv.
