One Deadpool & Wolverine star shares his excitement about finally getting to portray Gambit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film after his solo movie was canceled. While there were multiple major cameos as part of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast, a massive one that finally got to come to fruition was Channing Tatum in the role of Remy LeBeau, a.k.a. Gambit. Deadpool & Wolverine marked the second time Gambit was depicted in live-action, following Taylor Kitsch’s depiction in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Barley a week after Deadpool & Wolverine was released in theaters, Channing Tatum has broken his silence about finally getting his shot at playing Gambit in the Phase 5 installment. Tatum, who was supposed to headline his own Gambit solo film, shared two pictures of him and Ryan Reynolds at two different San Diego Comic-Cons, and reflected on making his Marvel debut with the following statement:
Tatum joined fellow cast members Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin and director Shawn Levy for a special Hall H panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Joining Tatum for the surprise Marvel cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine were Chris Evans, Jennifer Garner, and Wesley Snipes, as they reprised their roles of Johnny Storm, Elektra, and Blade.
Could Channing Tatum Return As Gambit In Future MCU Movies?
Following the ending of Deadpool & Wolverine, Gambit’s fate is somewhat left up in the air, but it is presumed that he was sent back to his world thanks to the TVA. As Tatum’s Gambit casting was finally embraced and brought to life in Deadpool & Wolverine, this begs the question of whether or not Marvel Studios plans to bring him back in their upcoming projects. For the time being, Marvel Studios hasn’t announced any formal plans to have Tatum reprise the role of Gambit in the foreseeable future.
However, it wouldn’t be shocking if Tatum did come back at least one more time to play Gambit as The Multiverse Saga nears its end. Whether be in a potential Deadpool 4 movie or even in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it may better to do this in Phase 6, as the door will potentially be closed by the time they reach Phase 7. Since Avengers: Secret Wars will reportedly operate as a soft reboot for the MCU, it is very possible that someone else will play Gambit in the franchise after the final Phase 6 installment.
Having Tatum play the Gambit of the Earth-616 universe seems highly unlikely since Marvel Studios is working on their X-Men movie reboot and will likely want a new face to play the beloved mutant. But even if this is the first and only time that the world gets to see Tatum as Gambit, it was incredibly memorable and one of the funnier parts of Deadpool & Wolverine. That said, hopefully Deadpool & Wolverine won’t be the last time Tatum gets to suit up as Gambit.
