Wait, What?! Nobody Wants This Season 2 Just Confirmed a Huge Role for a Character Nobody Wanted More Of

The latest update on Nobody Wants This season 2 confirms a promotion for a key cast member. The hit Netflix series, which stars Kristen Bell as an agnostic podcaster and Adam Brody as a rabbi, is set to begin filming its second installment in March. It will have to address the major cliffhanger, which sees Noah Roklov (Brody) decide to continue his relationship with Joanne (Bell) even though it will bring chaos into his life. Nobody Wants This season 2 will also bring back the romantic comedy’s supporting cast, including an increased presence for a familiar face.

TVLine confirms that Jackie Tohn, who plays Esther Roklov, Noah’s sister-in-law, has been promoted to a series regular. Tohn recurred frequently in season 1, appearing in nine episodes out of ten. Esther was not too fond of Joanne at the start of the romantic comedy. But by the season finale, she had a bigger issue with Joanne’s sister Morgan (Justine Lupe) which will be addressed in the upcoming episodes.

What Tohn’s Promotion Means For Nobody Wants This Season 2

Esther’s Story Has Been

In the Nobody Wants This season 1 finale, at the same time Noah and Joanne have decided to stick to their romance, Esther discovers that Joanne’s younger sister Morgan has been maintaining a secret friendship with her husband Sasha (Timothy Simons) and appears quite displeased. Morgan bonds with Sasha, unexpectedly, over the fact that they are “loser siblings”, with Joanne and Noah both appearing to be more charming and suave. But given their hush-hush conversations and stealthy meetings, some viewers have wondered whether there could be romance in store for Morgan and Sasha.

In interviews, series creator Erin Foster has dismissed the possibility of a Morgan/Sasha romance. Esther and Sasha have a young daughter, and Foster has said that she doesn’t want to portray Morgan as a homewrecker. Still, even though the fan-favorite pairing of Morgan and Sasha is likely to remain platonic, there’s still the fallout from the sneaking around and lying that will have to be addressed. That should get a bigger spotlight since Tohn is now officially in the main cast.

Our Take On Tohn’s Main Cast Promotion

It Speaks To The Show’s Strength

Part of the reason the rom-com struck a chord is because, like any good romantic comedy, you need to surround the leads with strong supporting actors. Simons, Lupe, and Tohn are arguably the most essential of the Nobody Wants This cast after Bell and Brody so it makes sense to put more of a focus on that secondary dynamic. With new Emmy-winning writers Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan as showrunners, it will be interesting to see what the resolution of that story will look like.
