Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* Actor Gives Elusive Answer To MCU Sentry Casting Queries

Lewis Pullman and Sentry in Marvel Comics

Thunderbolts* Sentry actor plays coy about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After multiple delays to the movie caused shifts in the star-studded cast of Thunderbolts*, original Sentry actor Steven Yeun ended up leaving the project. The role, which is reportedly important for the MCU movie, then had a few names rumored for it, with one actor emerging as Marvel’s new Bob Reynolds, aka Sentry. However, the secrecy surrounding the MCU character remains.

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Lewis Pullman evaded questions about playing Sentry in Marvel’s Thunderbolts*.

However, the actor revealed what he would like if he joined the franchise, saying, “You’d want it to be a character that you can live in for a long time.” Pullman also burst into laughter after being shown an image of Sentry from Marvel Comics and being asked if he had ever worn anything similar. While Pullman has not revealed any details about the plot of Marvel’s Thunderbolts* or Sentry’s role, there are many rumors about his character.

Thunderbolts* Sentry Rumors Explained

Lewis Pullman Could Have A Dual Role Of Sorts

In February, a bombshell report revealed the original plans for Thunderbolts* to end with many deaths. According to the report, previous drafts of the script for the film centered on the team going on a mission and dying at the end. That was before The Bear showrunner Joanna Calo was brought in to work on the movie’s script, so there are expected to be some changes to the story, which should include how many Thunderbolts* members survive by the end of the movie.

Where that connects to Sentry is the fact that Pullman’s Marvel character has been rumored to serve as the movie’s main antagonist. Sentry is a hero in Marvel Comics, and the character should start like that in the film. However, rumors claim that Bob Reynolds will turn to the dark side and go up against the team. Given Sentry’s immense power — he is one of Marvel’s Superman-like characters — and the MCU’s Thunderbolts mostly being made up of super-soldiers, the team would not be much of a match for Sentry.

While Sentry is a hero, Bob Reynolds holds great darkness within him. In the comics, when Bob got his powers and became Sentry, a dark entity known as the Void bonded with him. Eventually, that twisted power took over and led to a path of death and destruction. It would be interesting to see Sentry first become part of the Thunderbolts, with the team rumored to rescue him from the vault that appeared in Florence Pugh’s Thunderbolts* set video before fighting Pullman’s character as the Void in Marvel’s Thunderbolts*.
