Sofronio Vasquez III just made history as the first Filipino and Asian to have ever won in “The Voice USA.”

During the show’s finale, Sofronio performed Sia’s “Unstoppable” and “A Million Dreams” from the musical “The Greatest Showman,” which ultimately secured him the win in Season 26 of the competition.

1. He grew up in the Philippines

Sofronio grew up in the Philippines but is now based in the United States. According to his NBC bio, the Filipino singer credits his father for his love for music and even calls him his first singing coach.

2. Before pursuing music, he practiced dentistry

While music has been part of Sofronio’s life since he was a child, another career he pursued was becoming a dentist, which he eventually practiced. However, due to his father’s death, Sofronio returned to pursuing music as a tribute to his first “singing coach.”

3. He competed in ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ in 2019

Sofronio competed in the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment of “It’s Showtime” in 2019, where he finished as a third runner-up.

4. He went viral on Facebook for his ‘That’s What Friends Are For’ song cover

In 2022, Sofronio’s song cover of “That’s What Friends Are For” alongside “Tawag ng Tanghalan” alums Anton Antenorcruz, Jex De Castro, Hazelyn Cascaño, and Gigi De Lana went viral on Facebook with over nine million views and over 310,000 reactions.

5. He has original songs titled ‘Bakit Di Ko Sinabi’ and ‘Bililhon’

Sofronio has released two original songs over the course of his singing career. In 2021, he released “Bakit Hindi Ko Sinabi” and followed it up with “Bililhon” a year later.
