Meghan Markle’s political ambitions amid Donald Trump’s victory – Could she run for president?

Meghan Markle has long been rumoured to be considering a run for US president and while she is yet to publicly address the speculation, one Royal insider has suggested it is not impossible.

Meghan Markle has long been speculated to have political ambitions and with Donald Trump returning to the White House. Could this be the push Meghan needs to explore a potential career in politics?

According to one Royal insider, it’s not impossible for Meghan Markle to aim for the White House, especially now that she’s no longer required to remain politically neutral as a former member of the Royal Family.

However, Grant Harrold, a former butler to King Charles and Queen Camilla, shared his thoughts: “It’s not impossible Meghan would run for president, but quite unlikely and would people vote for her? It’s an interesting situation. They might not be encouraged as they don’t tend to get as involved politically. However, you never know what her next plan could be. But would Harry be able to support her?”

Representing Slingo, he further added: “I don’t think Trump getting elected would affect where Meghan or Harry live. I don’t see them suddenly deciding to leave the country, it will be down to personal reasons if they do. It’s already been said that they might want to come back to Europe anyway, but I think that’s personal reasons and not political reasons. I think they’ll be in the country they want to be in. It could be Europe so they can be closer to the royal family.”

Rumors have circulated that Meghan Markle could be running for US President

Meghan, known for her political interests, spent time in 2021 cold-calling US senators as part of her campaign for paid parental leave. The Duchess reportedly reached out to senators Shelley Moore Capito and Susan Collins, introducing herself as “This is Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.”

During the 2020 US election campaign, Meghan teamed up with feminist icon Gloria Steinem to encourage Americans to vote. In a chat with Access Hollywood, Gloria shared, “She came home to vote. The first thing we did, and why she came to see me, was we sat at the dining room table where I am right now and we cold-called voters.”

However, in this election cycle, Harry and Meghan have largely remained on the sidelines, not endorsing any candidate. Their charitable organization, The Archewell Foundation, commemorated National Voter Registration Day by having team members write letters encouraging people to register to vote before November 5th’s polling day.

This isn’t the first time the couple has encouraged US citizens to exercise their voting rights. In September 2020, during the presidential race between Joe Biden and Trump, Harry and Meghan appeared in a video message urging Americans to “vote against hate speech.”

A royal expert shot down the possibility of Meghan running for president

In a video that was part of Time 100 magazine’s annual list of the top 100 most influential people, Harry also shared that he would not be able to vote and had never voted in the UK as a member of the Royal Family. Although they did not specifically name anyone, the comments were seen as referring to Trump, with some suggesting it was a breach of the Sandringham Summit agreement, which was drafted when the couple stepped down from their Royal duties in 2020.

Royal aides told The Sunday Times at the time that the comments broke the pledge, leaving the Royal Family “wringing their hands.” “The feeling is it’s a violation of the agreement,” one source said.
