Christopher Nolan Offered the Role of Poseidon to Robert Downey Jr. in ‘THE ODYSSEY’—But He Had to Decline!

🎥 Christopher Nolan Offered the Role of Poseidon to Robert Downey Jr. in ‘THE ODYSSEY’—But He Had to Decline!

Christopher Nolan is known for assembling powerhouse casts, and his latest project, The Odyssey, is no exception. The visionary director reportedly wanted none other than Robert Downey Jr. to take on the role of Poseidon, the mighty god of the sea in his highly anticipated retelling of Homer’s epic. However, much to the disappointment of fans, the Iron Man star had to turn down the offer due to his commitment to another blockbuster—Avengers: Doomsday.

With Oppenheimer dominating awards season and proving once again that Nolan knows how to create cinematic masterpieces, excitement for The Odyssey has been skyrocketing. The film is expected to bring a bold, modern take on the ancient Greek myth, blending stunning visuals with gripping storytelling. Downey Jr., who has proven his dramatic range time and time again, would have been an incredible choice to portray the temperamental, powerful god of the seas.

However, it seems that Marvel still holds a tight grip on the beloved actor. Avengers: Doomsday, the next massive installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is currently in production, and Downey Jr.’s return to the franchise is one of the biggest talking points in Hollywood. While details about his involvement remain under wraps, speculation is running wild about how Tony Stark could make a comeback after his emotional exit in Endgame. Given the scale of the film, it’s no surprise that Downey Jr.’s schedule is packed, leaving no room for Nolan’s Odyssey.

Fans are now left wondering—who will step into the role of Poseidon? Will Nolan find another A-list actor with the same commanding screen presence as Downey Jr.? Names like Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, and even Russell Crowe (who has already played Zeus in the MCU’s Thor: Love and Thunder) have been thrown around by eager moviegoers.

Although it’s disappointing that Downey Jr. won’t be bringing Poseidon to life, his decision shows just how in-demand he still is in Hollywood. Whether he’s reprising his legendary Marvel role or diving into ambitious new projects, RDJ continues to be one of the industry’s most sought-after actors.
