Season 5 of The Boys promises to be its final and possibly most explosive chapter yet. As fans tuned in to the eighth and final episode of Season 4 last Thursday, they were left on the edge of their seats. Hughie and his crew are in deep trouble, while Homelander inches closer to achieving his ultimate dream. With plenty of surprises in store, Amazon is gearing up for one last, thrilling ride. So, what can we expect from the upcoming season of The Boys?
Homelander vs. Butcher vs. The World?
Hughie may be the main character in both the series and the comics, but it’s Butcher and Homelander who have taken center stage in recent seasons, with their character arcs driving much of the plot. As Butcher nears his own end, he has nothing left to lose. Armed with a virus capable of killing Homelander (and potentially himself), a confrontation seems inevitable.
The exact circumstances of their clash remain unclear. Homelander has now secured a position within the government and declared martial law, giving him an army at his disposal to combat Butcher. Hughie and his crew, for the first time, might not stand by Butcher, who has crossed numerous lines.

Butcher’s actions, such as driving Ryan away and killing Victoria Neuman, have put him at odds with Hughie’s more “pacifist” ideals. Hughie, who has become like a younger brother to Butcher, may find himself in the position of stopping him before he goes too far. Meanwhile, Ryan, increasingly aware of Homelander’s true nature, might be the one to ultimately confront his father.
The Role of Ryan and Other Key Characters
Ryan is a crucial player in this final season. Influenced by his deviant father, he’s beginning to see through Homelander’s facade. After the death of Grace Mallory, Ryan may question everything he’s been taught, potentially becoming a powerful force against Homelander.
Another intriguing subplot involves Soldier Boy. Now revealed as Homelander’s biological father, their relationship is fraught with tension. Soldier Boy’s disgust for Homelander could play a significant role in the upcoming season. Whether as an ally or an adversary, his return is bound to be significant.
New and Returning Faces
Season 5 of The Boys is set to arrive in 2026, with plenty of time for the second season of the spinoff series, Gen V, to unfold. Characters from Gen V have already crossed over, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see more of them in the final season, potentially aiding Hughie and his team.

Hughie still has a dose of temporary V compound from Season 3, which he might use in a critical moment. Additionally, Queen Maeve, who lost her powers, might regain them temporarily for a decisive battle.
Ashley, who injected herself with permanent V compound, will likely switch sides. Her fear of Homelander, whom she despises, may push her to join the “good guys.”
A Bloody Conclusion?
The burning question is whether the series will mirror the comic’s conclusion. While the show has diverged significantly from the source material, the tone remains consistent. The recent events of Season 4 suggest that Season 5 could be as brutal and bloody as the comic’s end.
Fans should brace for the deaths of key characters and epic battles between Supers with selfish intentions. Series creator Eric Kripke hints at a climactic and gory conclusion, saying, “I’m thrilled to bring the story to a bloody, epic, and wet crescendo.”
As we eagerly await the final season, it’s clear that The Boys will go out with a bang, delivering the intense, no-holds-barred drama fans have come to love.
