Marvel Studios is continuing to see success with Deadpool & Wolverine as the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is continuing to break new records at the box office. Last year was one of the roughest for the MCU timeline, with several of their films not performing financially, except for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, the only 2024 MCU movie is proving to be a boon for Marvel now that Deadpool & Wolverine is finally playing in theaters.
Variety reports Deadpool & Wolverine has earned $550 million at the worldwide box office. With $284 million overseas and $261 million domestically, Deadpool & Wolverine has grossed more than half a billion dollars, setting the Phase 5 film on a successful path. In less than a week, Deadpool & Wolverine has crushed several records in the R-rated film genre, including one for its opening weekend.
Why It’s Very Likely Deadpool & Wolverine Will Make $1 Billion
With Deadpool & Wolverine being the only Marvel movie to release in 2024, at least from the MCU, the smashing success is clearly showing that audiences are still hungry for comic book movies. Following the latest report, it is becoming very evident that Deadpool & Wolverine will hit the billion-dollar mark within the next few weeks. Deadpool & Wolverine would be the first MCU movie to do so since Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.
What’s helping Deadpool & Wolverine is the positive reception of the film, including strong scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Word of mouth is also very crucial for a movie like this, where people will hear about the major Marvel cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, and the strong performances of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Even if some of the major surprises got spoiled through social media during Deadpool & Wolverine’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it can still drive new audience members to want to see it for themselves.
Thanks to all the references and Easter eggs in Deadpool & Wolverine to the Fox-Marvel films, this is a tribute to the franchise that came before the MCU and, in many ways, helped the Avengers universe become a reality. It also feels fitting that the Deadpool threequel gets to be the one to hit a billion dollars, as Reynolds’ franchise is now part of the MCU. Hopefully, the success of Deadpool & Wolverine will be something that helps the rest of Phase 5 as Marvel begins to wrap it up and move onto Phase 6.
