Reba McEntire and Rex Linn have been a couple for four years and in that time they’ve developed their own special Christmas traditions.
“Rex and I will go see a movie. We have our Christmas on Christmas Eve, and he likes to go see movies, so we’ll do that first thing in the morning before the crowds hit the theaters,” Reba, 69, told E! News. “Then we’ll come back and we’ll have our meals.”
“You noticed I said ‘meals,’ because we’ll have lunch and supper and probably a midnight snack. That will be our tradition,” The Voice coach added with a laugh.
As for what film they plan to see this Christmas, Reba said she and Rex, 68, can’t wait to see The Fire Inside. The movie stars Ryan Destiny as Claressa “T-Rex” Shields, who became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing. Oscar nominee Brian Tyree Henry plays her coach.
Reba McEntire ‘Desperate’ to Keep Rex Linn Happy by ‘Setting Time Aside’
The film opens on December 25, so it looks like Reba and Rex will be spending their Christmas morning at the theater.
The “Consider Me Gone” singer met Rex in 1991 when they costarred in The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw. However, Reba was married at the time, tying the knot with her manager and former steel guitar player Narvel Blackstock in 1989. The pair divorced in 2015.
“He’s very into my music, I’m very into his career — it’s just great getting to talk to somebody who I find very interesting, very funny and very smart, and is interested in me too,” the Young Sheldon star gushed.
Reba and Rex currently costar on her NBC sitcom, Happy’s Place. “We’re used to working together and also being together as partners and buddies and lovers. It just works out,” the actress told E! News.
She said the secret to their success as a couple and coworkers is, “You better like ’em — all the time. It’s 24/7, so I do like him a lot.”
A source exclusively told Closer in July that Reba was worried that “between her music career, serving as a coach on The Voice and now, starring in a new TV show, Rex was going to feel she wouldn’t have enough hours in the day for him.”
Inside Reba McEntire’s Plan to Save Relationship With Boyfriend Rex Linn
“She is an executive producer of Happy’s Place, so she solved the problem by insisting Rex be a part of the cast. Now he’s going to be by her side during the 12-hour days!” the insider continued.
“Reba has been married twice, and she really hadn’t had another marriage on her dance card,” the source added. “But Rex has been such a blessing in her life, she’s decided she’d love to marry him and would be crushed if their personal lives took a backseat to their professional pursuits.”
