Prince William and Princess Catherine have maintained a normal life for their children, Prince George, Prince Charlotte, and Prince Louie.

However, if Prince William ascends to the throne, Charlotte could be left without a title and purpose in the House of Windsor.

If Prince George decides to have children, they will automatically inherit the titles of Prince or Princess. However, this is not the case for his younger sister, Princess Charlotte.

Titles are inherited through sons, not daughters. Charlotte was given the title because her mother married Prince William in 2011, with the young royal inheriting princess status from the future Monarch.

However, her brother George will be the Prince of Wales, as a royal lady can only be a princess if she’s married to a prince or the daughter of a prince.

Experts Deb Lucy Hume explain that royal titles are inherited through sons, so if Charlotte has children, they would not automatically inherit the titles of HR Prince or Princess.

The monarch may offer to bestow a royal title upon his or her daughter’s children, but Princess Anne and Captain Phillips declined this offer.

Charlotte is the first female member of the royal family to retain her place in the line of succession above a younger brother after the late Queen Elizabeth gave the Seal of the Royal Ascent to the succession of the crown act in 2013.
