“I Was Too Scared”: Channing Tatum Reveals 1 Part Of His Deadpool & Wolverine Gambit Cameo That Intimidated Him

Channing Tatum's Gambit looking into the distance and in his Bullet Train cameo

Gambit actor Channing Tatum confesses what part of filming his first MCU role in Deadpool & Wolverine scared him. Channing Tatum’s Gambit may have been one of the biggest highlights among Deadpool & Wolverine cameo characters, as his Gambit portrayal had never appeared in live-action before. With his over-the-top accent, comic-accurate costume, and charismatic presence, Tatum’s Gambit stole the show in every scene he appeared in.

In Vanity Fair‘s “Channing Tatum, Zoë Kravitz & Naomi Ackie Take Lie Detector Tests” video, Gambit actor Channing Tatum answers a few compromising questions, two of them involving his brief appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. According to Tatum, he wanted to keep his Gambit costume, but he was simply too scared to take it. Read Channing Tatum’s full confession and watch the video below (from the 14:19 mark:

Zoe: You finally fulfilled your dream of playing Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine. Did it live up to your expectations? Channing: Beyond. Zoe: Since you’ve always wanted to play him, did you ask to keep the costume? Channing: I was too scared to ask. And usually, I steal the very last outfit that I’m in in every movie, and I was too scared to do it on this one. Zoe: In the film, Deadpool asks you if your dialect coach was a minion. Do you think that was fair criticism? Channing: Fair is an interesting word in that question. No, I don’t think that’s fair.

When Channing Tatum Could Wear His Gambit Costume Again In The MCU

Tatum’s Gambit Could Return In The Multiverse Saga And Beyond

Wolverine, Blade, Gambit, X-23, Deadpool and Elektra in the Resistance team in Deadpool & Wolverine

Gambit and his multiversal allies were willing to sacrifice their lives to help Wolverine and Deadpool kill Cassandra Nova. Although Alioth arrived as soon as the Void’s survivor team defeated Cassandra’s henchmen, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s ending suggests that all the heroes survived. Deadpool asked Hunter B-15 to rescue his friends from the Void, which she agreed to do. Considering X-23 appeared at the end alongside Wolverine in Deadpool’s house, it’s safe to say that Channing Tatum’s Gambit is somewhere out there, ready to return in an eventual Deadpool & Wolverine sequel or another MCU movie.

Deadpool, Wolverine, and all of Deadpool’s friends are likely to return in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are very likely to feature every major Marvel hero introduced throughout the MCU and Fox’s X-Men movie franchise. Considering Gambit’s standout appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, Channing Tatum’s mutant has an almost guaranteed spot in the Multiverse Saga’s biggest crossover movies, at the very least in the form of a cameo.

There’s also a distinct difference between Channing Tatum’s Gambit and the rest of live-action mutants in Fox’s X-Men movies: Tatum’s Gambit never appeared in a movie before Deadpool & Wolverine. After the Multiverse Saga ends, the MCU’s X-Men movie and subsequent projects could easily introduce a soft-rebooted Gambit portrayed by Channing Tatum. The biggest obstacle in this scenario would be Tatum’s age, however, as the MCU may choose a much younger cast in order to launch a new generation of mutants on the big and the small screen.
