Channing Tatum as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine

WARNING: This article includes spoilers from Deadpool & Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds wants to see more of Channing Tatum’s Gambit after his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Deadpool & Wolverine. One of the biggest cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine that finally paid off a long-missed opportunity was Tatum getting to play Gambit, since he was originally cast more than 10 years ago but his Marvel hero never made it to the screen. Since he had a handful of scenes, Tatum’s Gambit became one of the most discussed aspects of Deadpool & Wolverine, as this was a massive surprise.

Today, Reynolds has shared multiple posts on social media accounts celebrating the many Marvel cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine. One such post was all about Tatum’s cameo, with the actor sharing a heartfelt message as well as some new images of Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine.

Reynolds also stressed how much he would love to see Tatum return as Gambit, writing, “Gambit is a guy Chan was born to play. His story is similar to mine in that he spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen. […] I want more — and from what I saw in theaters, you do too.” While Gambit isn’t seen in the Deadpool & Wolverine ending, it is believed that he was released from The Void and sent back to his universe.

Will Channing Tatum’s Gambit Return After Deadpool & Wolverine?

Assuming that Gambit is actually alive and well after Deadpool & Wolverine’s conclusion, it begs the question of whether Marvel Studios will bring back Tatum as the beloved X-Men hero. Given the response that Tatum has received as Gambit in the Phase 5 installment, Marvel Studios is certainly aware there is already growing popularity for his depiction. While Tatum’s Gambit movie may not be a possibility, there are plenty of ways to bring him back in different MCU projects.

As Marvel Studios gets closer to the end of The Multiverse Saga, they are laying out more building blocks for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will, undoubtedly, have multiple Marvel characters return. The major Phase 6 movies would make the most sense to have Tatum back as Gambit one last time, where he could also cross paths with other MCU characters and Marvel heroes from different universes. If Tatum’s Gambit got to interact with any of the other X-Men characters from the Fox-Marvel franchise, that would be a great full-circle moment, as his version of Remy was never featured in the original trilogy or the prequels.

If it is true that the Avengers: Secret Wars story will lead to a soft reboot for the MCU after Phase 6, The Multiverse Saga may be the final time that Tatum could reprise his Gambit role from Deadpool & Wolverine. Depending on what direction the X-Men reboot goes, they may go with a younger actor for Gambit in the main MCU timeline. Hopefully, following his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine, 2024 will not be the final appearance of Tatum’s Gambit.
