Prince Harry opened up about the challenges of losing a parent at a young age in a heartfelt letter to children who have lost military parents.
On Thursday, the Duke of Sussex reached out to the members of Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity that helps support children and young adults who lost a military parent, ahead of Remembrance Day on Monday. That’s when the UK honors those lost in war or conflict. Over 50 members of the organization are set to gather in London to honor their parents, per People. Very special.
Harry’s worked with the group for years and is currently a Global Ambassador for them. Acknowledging that he understands “perhaps more than most, the weight of losing a parent at a young age,” he expressed:
“It can be overwhelming and isolating. Yet, in the midst of that heartache, we find strength in the love and memories left behind, and I have seen how communities like yours can offer deep comfort and healing.”

He also encouraged kids to remember what their lost loved ones taught them, noting:
“I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the values that your loved ones instilled in you — courage, compassion, and a sense of purpose. These will serve as your guiding light, helping you navigate the challenges ahead.”
Seemingly addressing the upcoming gathering and all the ways the group supports one another, Meghan Markle‘s husband went on:
“In coming together to support one another, you not only honor the memories of your loved ones but also forge bonds that can and will carry you through the toughest times. The tears and laughter, the shared experiences, and the moments of joy you create together are powerful reminders that love endures.”

“Your resilience is a testament to the legacy of your loved ones, and I have every confidence in your ability to make them proud and to shine bright in the world. All they want is for you to be happy.”

So well said!
As Perezcious readers know, Harry lost his mother Princess Diana when he was just 12. He really does know all too personally what a loss like this can feel like. Having not felt supported enough in his early days of grief, he’s certainly doing everything he can to ensure others don’t feel the same, and it’s having a big impact!
Founder Nikki Scott expressed her gratitude for the letter, reflecting on the charity’s website:
“Prince Harry is completely dedicated to Scotty’s and takes his role as Global Ambassador very seriously. He understands what it is like for our members to grow up without their parent, and he also knows the sacrifices made by servicemen and women. It’s become a bit of a tradition now, for The Duke to write to our members at Remembrance. They also received letters from him in 2022 and 2023 and it means so much to them to know he is thinking about them and their parents at this proud but difficult time.”

So sweet of him. The father of two also took a photo wearing Scotty’s black and yellow striped scarf and a poppy pin, which is a symbol of remembrance for fallen service members that has been used for over 100 years. See (below):
