The Boys Season 4 will introduce Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s mysterious character to the typically chaotic mix of the series. Showrunner Eric Kripke believes Morgan is “instrumental” to the stories being told in Season 4 while teasing the dynamic between his character and Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher.
Promotional material for The Boys Season 4 has played up the pending union between Morgan’s character and Butcher, the ragged, foul-mouthed leader of the eponymous group. Morgan will play an “old friend” of Butcher who shares his distrust of superheroes and doesn’t hold him back, unlike the rest of the group. Meanwhile, Butcher will be under a bigger spotlight in Season 4 considering his declining health after his excess consumption of Compound V leaves him with just six months to live thanks to a tumor.
“People are really going to love it because watching those two work off each other, it’s just like watching two heavyweight fighters, they’re just both so good and interesting.”
The Boys Season 4 reunites Morgan and Kripke, who previously worked together on the hit series, Supernatural. Additionally, Morgan has previously worked with co-star Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell) on Rampage and Nowhere Men. Quaid called Morgan a “standup guy” during Season 4 production and expressed his excitement about sharing the screen with him. The Boys‘ recent trailer gave fans a sneak peek at what to expect from Morgan’s character.
Per the official synopsis, “In season 4, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.” Season 4 sees Antony Starr return as Homelander and Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman alongside Erin Moriarty (Annie January/Starlight), Laz Alonso (Marvin T. “Mother’s” Milk), Jensen Ackles (Soldier Boy) and Chace Crawford (The Deep).
