Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange and Screen Rant's D23 overlay-1

The first footage from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has been released. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man is Tom Holland. The actor will continue in the role for some time, with the MCU’s Spider-Man 4 currently in development, waiting for a draft of the movie’s script to arrive soon. Before that, Marvel fans will get to experience a different kind of Spider-Man story at Marvel Studios, with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s plot flipping a key part of Holland’s Spider-Man journey.

At D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event’s presentation for Marvel Animation, where Screen Rant is in attendance, the first Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man footage shows how Doctor Strange plays a role in altering Spider-Man’s origin story. In the animated series, the spider that bites Peter comes from a portal opened by Doctor Strange. Different from the MCU Spider-Man movies, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will show some events from this Peter Parker’s origin story. Check out the full description below:

“The footage begins with Peter Parker at Midtown High on the first day of school. A big portal with a monster opens out of thin air. Peter is saved by Doctor Strange. A spider drops from the portal after Strange takes the monster back through it. The spider bites Peter right as he meets Nico Minoru. The theme that is playing is a remix rap using samples from classic Spider-Man themes. A few months later, Peter dons a low tech suit and fights two criminals using tech. Norman Osborn is Peter’s man in the chair. One bad guy is a speedster, with his powers coming from technological boots. Another villain has two gauntlets with energy blades. Spider-Man trips the speedster, who knocks into the other thug.”

Norman Osborn Is Iron Man’s Replacement In Spider-Man’s New Story

The Iconic Marvel Character Is Played By A Major Star

Norman Osborn leading HAMMER in Marvel Comics

After entering the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Norman Osborn will once again make an appearance in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Instead of Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, a new actor will take on this version of the character. Euphoria‘sColman Domingo will play Norman Osborn in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, saying, “I don’t know why I’m drawn to villains. I’m a good human being. But I believe everyone has the power to turn.”

Domingo should not be an unfamiliar name to MCU fans, as the actor had been rumored to be one of the stars Marvel was considering to replace Jonathan Majors. Domingo previously spoke about that possibility, revealing he “would welcome a conversation around” playing the new Kang. Now, Domingo will play Norman Osborn for Marvel Studios, with his version of the character taking on the mentor role Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark had in the life of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in the MCU, as Your Friendly Neighborhood offers a scenario where Norman was the one to recruit Spider-Man.

Domingo’s Norman Osborn will serve as Spider-Man’s “man in the chair.” Interestingly, Iron Man exists in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s world and will appear in the series; however, Osborn will be the one to guide Peter Parker instead. The animated series’ showrunner, Jeff Trammell, revealed that “Norman has good intentions but has never embodied the hero role in the way that Tony [Stark] has.” The character is said to have unconventional methods for how he helps Spider-Man that “may not turn out in everyone’s best interest” as Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1 plays out.
