Redditor @Enigmadizasrer doesn’t think Squid Game season 3 should have a happy ending. They suggested that perhaps some of the characters think that they have won, only to figure out that the games are going to continue. The fan wrote;

“A small handful with escape with the help of 001. They will think they blew the whole place up, but none of it matters because everyone and everything is replaceable, and with disappointment they will realise that they can’t stop it because a new venue is built and new people are found. Or they realise there are many Squid Games running across the world.”

A final image of various Squid Games happening globally would be a chilling and unforgettable way to end the show. Since the series has a bleak tone and Squid Game season 2’s games are as risky as ever, it would make sense to conclude on a tragic and scary note.

Redditor Apart-Brother-4243 wonders if Gi-hun could visit his daughter and then realize that the horror isn’t truly over. This would be an emotional and moving scene that fits the tone of the show and would also allow the series to end on a shocking note. The fan wrote:

Since the Front Man has been the main villain since the first episode, it would make sense for them to die. This ending would allow Squid Game to come full circle. But since Gi-hun never intended to kill anyone, this wouldn’t exactly be a victory. Hwang Dong-hyuk has spoken about Squid Game season 3 in various interviews. He shared that Squid Game season 3 might come out in summer or fall 2025. The showrunner has also talked a little bit about what fans can expect story-wise in the third and final season. Fans can’t wait for more great Squid Game scenes and since they’ve been impressed with Squid Game‘s well-crafted episodes so far, the last season will likely be even more epic and memorable.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hwang said:

“the third season will really explore that sense of loss and failure, that guilt weighing so heavily on Gi-hun. How’s he going to navigate the story further with all of that weighing down on him?”

He continued that Squid Game season 3 will be the last one, but he’s possibly open to a future spinoff. He said season 3 is the end because “I’ve had closure to the story I wanted to tell about society through the character of Seong Gi-hun.” He said that if there was a Squid Game spinoff, he would be interested in exploring other characters, such as the masked guards. He asked, “How did they end up here? What do they do in their downtime?” Since the guards are some of the most intriguing Squid Game characters, this is a great idea.
