Meghan Markle’s Photographer Reflects on ‘Wild Journey’ to Her New Chapter: ‘Feels Like the Good Old Days’ (Exclusive)

Jake Rosenberg, who photographed the Duchess of Sussex for her recent lifestyle brand launch, recently told PEOPLE that Meghan is “getting back to her roots”

Meghan Markle’s friend and photographer is sharing an inside look at life with the Duchess of Sussex.

Jake Rosenberg — who recently photographed Meghan for her lifestyle brand, As ever, and photos that appeared in her exclusive interview with PEOPLE — shared a behind-the-scenes snap with his longtime pal on his Instagram Stories on Sunday, April 20.

In the sweet black-and-white shot, Meghan smiled with her hands on Rosenberg’s shoulders. “Always a beautiful day shooting with @meghan @aseverofficial,” the photographer captioned the image.

Rosenberg recently spoke with PEOPLE about photographing the Duchess of Sussex and her family, noting that it’s been a “wild journey” watching Meghan evolve over more than a decade of friendship, adding that her latest chapter of “getting back to her roots” does “feel like the good old days.”

“She has a way of [adding] a personal touch on so many different facets of her life,” he said of the With Love, Meghan star. “I’ve witnessed that as a friend, and now she gets to share that with so many more people.”

Many of the images by Rosenberg featured Meghan in her element: in the garden, in the kitchen or sitting on the floor with her beloved dog Guy, whom she announced the death of earlier this year.

“Shooting with Meghan, it just feels like we’re two friends hanging out, you know?” he reflected. “It doesn’t feel like this giant production, and there are all these different people weighing in. It’s just a really nice moment for us to have together to capture authentic, genuine moments.”

“She wants to get her hands dirty,” he continued. “We end up going for a long walk and come out with a series of images that we look back on and, you know, for me, they feel really natural and true to who she is.”

Rosenberg was behind the shot of Meghan and her 3-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, that appeared on the homepage of the As ever website.

“It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, and we were all hanging out,” the photographer recounted. “They were having a moment together.”

“That was really authentic to who she is as a mother, and Lilibet is such a joy, so it was really about joy between the two of them,” he said.

As an artist, Rosenberg said it’s easy to work with someone like Meghan, who is “so involved in the creative process.”

“She puts so much care into each detail, which ends up creating such a beautiful story,” he said. “I’m very proud to be part of what she’s building and work alongside her.”
