Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided they wanted their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to have royal titles, despite the fact they gave up their own HRH styles

Meghan Markle has expressed a desire for her two children to keep their official royal titles following discussions with two senior members of the Royal Family, according to reports.

Despite the Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry’s decision to step back from the Royal Family in 2020 and move to California, it appears they didn’t wish to sever all connections with the Palace.

This was evident in 2023 when Meghan and Harry chose for their children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – to carry royal titles, despite Meghan and Harry no longer being able to use their HRH titles. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as they are still known, are thought to have made this decision after conversations with close relatives Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.

Interestingly, during their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan claimed she had no “attachment” to the “grandeur” of royal life. However, a royal expert now suggests the couple changed their minds and wanted to keep their children’s titles for very specific reasons.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, expert Neil Sean stated: “Harry and Meghan are very, very keen to cling onto those royal titles. After much deliberation, Meghan decided that the titles would be a good thing, not just for her but for both her children too.”

He added: “Meghan become very friendly with senior members of the monarchy, predominately Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. After this, Meghan realized how useful a title can be, particularly when you want to move in the correct circles.

“That is the reason why they want to clutch hold of titles.” Despite the regal titles of Archie and Lilibet, they are living an everyday California life, far from Prince Harry’s UK family roots.

King Charles seemingly wants to bridge the gap with his grandchildren, but geographical distance remains an issue. Allegedly, Meghan has little interest in bringing the kids to Britain.

During Harry’s recent solo UK visit for an awards evening, he didn’t meet any members of the Royal Family, even though he’s reportedly on talking terms with his father. During the trip, Meghan remained in the US with Archie and Lilibet.
