In 2022, Variety reported that Walking Dead and Nurse Jackie actress Merritt Wever had been cast in the second season of the Apple series Severance. On Jan. 31, Wever debuted as Gretchen George in episode 3, “Who Is Alive?” According to IMBD, Wever will appear in eight episodes of the 10-part season. Who did she play in The Walking Dead?

In season 6 of The Walking Dead, Alexandria resident Denise Cloyd, played by Wever, was introduced. Due to her anxiety, she mostly kept to herself and wasn’t seen much until her services were needed. After Rick (Andrew Lincoln) killed Dr. Pete Anderson (Corey Brill), her somewhat limited training as a surgeon made her the most qualified to take over the medical duties within the community.

Before the outbreak, she began studying to be a surgeon, but her anxiety got the best of her, and she switched her major to psychiatry. After Pete’s death, her skills were in dire need. She was pessimistic and cynical and didn’t believe she had the skills to pull off the job, especially after her unsuccessful attempt to save Holly (Laura Beamer). Tara (Alanna Masterson) encourages her, strengthening her confidence, and she soon becomes much more secure. This proves helpful after Carl (Chandler Riggs) is shot in the eye.

In the comics, Denise’s story is significantly different. She is a surgeon who becomes the girlfriend Heath, but in the series, she begins a relationship with Tara (Alanna Masterson).

Sadly, Denise meets her demise while on a supply run with Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Rosita (Christian Serratos). In the series, she is killed by Dwight (Austin Amelio) with an arrow shot through her eye. This is the comic book death of Abraham Ford.
