The book, like the second season of the show, follows Belly and the Fisher brothers are they attempt to save the Cousins house from being sold. Throughout the novel, Belly jumps back and forth between her long-time feelings for Conrad and her newfound feelings for Jeremiah. In the book, the trio saves the house and all travel back to Conrad’s college, so he can finish his exams. Frustrated that Belly won’t stop thinking about Conrad, Jeremiah kisses Belly, and she kisses him back.

Ultimately, Conrad sees the kiss and when Belly tries to confront him, he refuses to admit his feelings for her. At this moment, Belly realizes that if she wants to be truly happy, she needs to go for the brother who will actually communicate with her and love her properly. Therefore, at the end of the second book, Belly and Jeremiah begin dating. Since The Summer I Turned Pretty typically runs for about seven episodes per season, it seems likely that this scene, or some essence of it, will occur in the finale of the season.

Why Jeremiah & Belly Shouldn’t End Up Together In The Summer I Turned Pretty

Despite the fact that Jeremiah and Belly get together in The Summer I Turned Pretty books, they should not the endgame couple of the series. It’s clear that Belly loves Conrad more deeply, and this will always cause a rift between the three of them. Additionally, Belly really only chooses Jeremiah because Conrad won’t choose her. In this way, he becomes a consolation prize rather than her true love, and Jeremiah deserves better than that. Although it’s upsetting that Jeremiah won’t ever be Belly’s number one, he needs to break free of her and Conrad’s complicated relationship and find someone that can truly appreciate him how he appreciates Belly.

The Summer I Turned Pretty offers a dramatic and complicated look at a teenage love triangle, but for the most part, it’s clear what the right choice for Belly is. Despite the fact that Conrad has trouble expressing himself, he is the right person for Belly, and always has been. Hopefully, in the end, the Fisher brothers can come to terms with their shared affection of Belly and learn to live alongside each other happily. More than that, the end of the series needs to see Belly fixing her mistakes and staying true to herself.
