“If you want a completely normal person… then you’re in the wrong business”: Jared Leto’s Method Acting for Morbius Forced Cast and Crew to Accommodate an Absurd Habit

Jared Leto didn’t want to break his character while filming Morbius.

Jared Leto is infamously (and famously) known for the various antics he gets up to while method-acting villainous characters. From The Joker in Suicide Squad to Morbius in Morbius, Leto gets up to all kinds of shenanigans.

And although some might consider this dedication to the art, others might deem it as a bit unnecessary drama. Well, starring in Morbius cost Jared Leto some criticism, but the director defended Leto’s method acting.

Jared Leto Used Crutches And Wheelchairs In Morbius

And we don’t mean on-screen. Although it is quite obvious that Leto would use crutches and sit in a wheelchair on-screen for his character, the actor went one step beyond for his love of method acting.

While portraying the character of Dr. Michael Morbius, Leto used crutches and wheelchairs even during breaks because he didn’t want to break character. This was a part of his method acting routines.

Although it was helping Leto get more and more into the mindset of Dr. Morbius, the use of crutches ended up getting production delays because Leto would have difficulties in the bathroom.

Director Daniel Espinosa revealed in a recent interview with UPROXX that he didn’t mind the delays in production. On the other hand, the director did use a crew member to push Leto in a wheelchair to speed things up just a notch.

It’s more that I think the directors that don’t like actors get really frustrated about that. I think it’s really mysterious, what they do. Almost all actors, in general, have their own reputation of being an interesting person how he works with their characters. I think that all of them have these traits.

He further continued to praise Leto for being a different actor. If you want a completely normal person that does only things that you understand, then you’re in the wrong business. Because what’s different is what makes them tick.

It’s very hard to be able to say, ‘I can take this part away and I will still get the same stuff from him.’

Well, this is not the only instance that Jared Leto’s method acting has been the talk of the town. Despite the 2016 film Suicide Squad being a failure, Leto used his method acting skills for the role of the Joker.

It seems that Leto might have gotten a little more carried away since the rest of the cast have unsettling stories to share about the actor. From sending Margot Robbie a live rat to sending some unnerving things, Leto’s method acting can be quite terrifying.

What Jared Leto Sent To The Cast of Suicide Squad

Starring alongside Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Viola Davies, and, several others, Jared Leto portrayed the role of the Joker in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.

Leto used method acting for the role of the Joker and in an interview with E! News, he stated that to embody the role, he sent his castmates some interesting (and horrifying) gifts.

Don’t forget the an*l beads. And the used c*ndoms. I did a lot of things to create a dynamic, to create an element of surprise, of spontaneity, and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there.

He further continued, The Joker is somebody who doesn’t really respect things like personal space or boundaries.

An interesting observation was made by fans that Leto used method acting in Suicide Squad and Morbius. Unfortunately, both movies failed spectacularly at the box office.

Morbius received a rating of 5.1/10 on IMDB and a record-breaking low of 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. With Matt Smith, Michael Keaton, and, Tyrese Gibson in the mix, the film is available to stream on Disney+ in the U.S.
