The Walking Dead’s Greg Nicotero Is Bringing a Popular Post-Apocalyptic Novel to TV—And Fans Are Hyped!

The Walking Dead is an award-winning series, with 11 seasons and multiple spinoffs set all across America and Europe. It starred household names such as Andrew Lincoln, Danai Guria, Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Norman Reedus, who’ve been the avatars for some truly brilliant story writers that have told some truly brilliant stories.

The Walking Dead franchise wouldn’t be where it is today without its writers, producers, and directors—like Greg Nicotero, who directed numerous episodes of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking DeadNicotero is now moving from one post-apocalyptic show to another, joining the writing team for Swan Song.

What Is Swan Song, And Who Is Working On It

Swan Song is a show based on the novel of the same name by Robert R. McCammon. The plot of the story will follow the book, of which its logline reads, “Following the U.S. government’s nuclear showdown with an unprecedented malevolent enemy, the world, as it was, is gone forever. In its place is a society whose remaining citizens are caught in a life and death struggle to stay alive in a wasteland born of rage and fear, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies. One small girl offers a glimmer of hope against a supernatural being hell bent on the planet’s destruction.”

The story sounds very similar to the plot of Prime Video’s Fallouta series that has truly modernized the post-apocalyptic genre and is currently making major headway in season 2 production.

Swan Song has hired Russell Rothberg as its showrunner, writer, and producer. Rothberg worked on Apple TV’s Foundation, one of the best hard sci-fi shows of recent years. As previously mentioned, the show will also add a writer from The Walking Dead: Greg Nicotero. Nicotero will helm the pilot episode and also serve as an executive producer on the series, per Variety.

The TV series is being produced primarily by Monarch Media, alongside Brian Witten’s Monsters Agency Productions.

When Will The Show Release

The release date for Swan Song is currently unknown, though details are expected to be forthcoming with the series entering into production soon.
