Grab your margaritas and your closest friends, and get ready for a major binge-watching session as the latest season of Sweet Magnolias just dropped on Netflix. The heartwarming series, based on the novels of the same name by Sherryl Woods, follows three best friends – Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue – as they go about their lives in their small town in South Carolina. But will this be the last time we see them? Well here’s everything we know about a potential season five of Sweet Magnolias so far.

Has Sweet Magnolias season 5 been confirmed?

Right now there has been no word from Netflix on the series returning. However, we’re optimistic this won’t be the last of our favourite trio.

Sweet Magnolias is based on a series of books by Sherryl Woods, of which there are 11 novels. Now, the TV series hasn’t faithfully adapted each novel to match each season, but with 11 novels worth of inspiration, we’re hopeful this means the show would have plenty to cover in future seasons.

The one question mark we do have is over Maddie’s job offer. By the end of the season Maddie is offered and eventually accepts a new job in New York, which means moving her whole life and family out of South Carolina. As the series is all about the small town of Serenity, it seems unclear how the show would cover Maddie living in a different state.

But we’re hopeful the series will return as Netflix usually lets viewers know when the show is on its final season.

Who could return for Sweet Magnolias season 5?

Well this all depends on what happens if Maddie and her family are to move to New York, and if they’ll be included in the show. In an idea world they would return and therefore this is who we would expect to be returning for a potential season five:

Two people we’re not sure of the future of are Carson Rowland as Tyler “Ty” Townsend and Anneliese Judge as Annie Lenore Sullivan. Ty announces his plans to go touring and Annie is heading off to college so it’s unclear whether we’d get to see more of their journeys unfold.

And one person who likely won’t return is Chris Klein as Bill Townsend, as Bill suddenly passes away during the season. The only way we’d see his character return would be in flashback scenes.

When could we expect to see Sweet Magnolias season 5?

If the show were to be renewed for another season, it’s likely we could see it as early as next year. The third season of Sweet Magnolias was released in July 2023, just a year and a half after season two’s release in February 2022.

However, season four wasn’t released until February 2025, so we could also be looking at a 2027 release date for the show, given the two year gap between seasons three and four. Either way, we’ll be sure to keep you updated as soon as we found out more.
