Marvel has been doing a good job building some positive buzz lately, between the shock announcement of Robert Downey Jr’s return to the MCU, plus the financial success of Deadpool & Wolverine. However, one sore spot for Marvel has remained releasing the new Blade, which has been having troubles behind the scenes for a while now, recently having to change directors. However, Ryan Reynolds recently proposed a solution that he thinks would satisfy everyone: make the new Blade movie a sequel featuring the return of Wesley Snipes.
Reynolds Shows Love For Wesley Snipes
Snipes and Marvel are clearly on good terms since he had a pretty significant cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, reprising his role as Blade. Near the end of the movie, Deadpool asks the Time Variance Authority to allow the variant characters to join his timeline, seemingly hinting at their return. But in real life, Ryan Reynolds also made it clear he wants Wesley Snipes back, encouraging fans on Twitter to speak up if they would like Snipes to receive a Logan-like send-off for his version of Blade.
“There is no Fox Marvel Universe or MCU without Blade first creating a market,” Reynolds said in his tweet. “He’s Marvel Daddy. Please retweet for a Logan-like send off. #DeadpoolAndWolverine.” Ryan Reynolds clearly has quite a bit of sway with Marvel these days, so if he wants Wesley Snipes to get a sequel, it is hard to imagine that being a far-fetched request.
Knows The Pain Of A Bad Movie
Ryan Reynolds clearly has a soft spot for actors whose big break into superhero movies was unceremoniously cut short. He was in that position himself, thanks to 2011’s Green Lantern. That is no doubt why Ryan Reynolds worked to give spots in Deadpool & Wolverine to not only Wesley Snipes but also Channing Tatum as Gambit, another actor who nearly got his own movie before the rug got pulled from beneath him.
The New Blade
The MCU’s Blade was originally supposed to release next year, but with the sudden change in directors the movie has just had, that is looking increasingly unlikely. Mahershala Ali has remained consistent as the actor set to play the vampire, but clearly, there are behind-the-scenes troubles in danger of stalling out the movie. However, Ryan Reynolds’ idea to let Wesley Snipes have one more crack at the character would no doubt have a lot of fan interest.
A Blade Sendoff
If Snipes did return to give his version of Blade a sendoff, it could even end as a passing of the torch moment for Mahershala Ali to take over at the end, similar to how X-23 was set up as the new hero following the events of Logan. If Wesley Snipes is passionate about the role, taking Ryan Reynolds’ advice could even help modern Marvel fans develop a renewed interest in the character.
Only One Blade In The Multiverse
Deadpool & Wolverine could not even help but resist taking a bit of a shot at the struggles of the MCU’s Blade. At one point, Wesley Snipes’ version of Blade confidently declares that despite all the variants they are encountering, there will only ever be one Blade. The comment from Wesley Snipes’ character definitely felt like a fourth wall-breaking joke similar to what Ryan Reynolds has become known for incorporating as Deadpool.
There have been no further updates on the Mahershala Ali version of Blade. But seeing as how Ryan Reynolds was able to finally bring Hugh Jackman into the MCU, maybe Marvel will now trust taking his advice on giving Wesley Snipes a more substantial role too.
