Record-Breaking Numbers: ‘The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live’ Dominates Netflix!

While AMC has added all of its Walking Dead shows to Netflix at some point or another, its latest addition has set a Netflix record for the franchise.

So far as I can tell, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, the six-episode miniseries marking the return of Rick and Michonne after they departed the original show, is the best-performing Walking Dead series we’ve seen on Netflix.

The Ones Who Live is currently at #2 on the service behind only the well-performing American Primeval. As far as I can tell, this is the highest a Walking Dead series has ever placed. And that is a lot of shows. There’s the original Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Tales of The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Daryl Dixon and Dead City. Man, I forgot there were so many. I think they’ve all come to Netflix at some point (not sure about World Beyond?), but The Ones Who Live is performing the best.

Why? Well, I think even lapsed fans were excited to see Andrew Lincoln’s face again after he left the series, as it seemed like he may never return. Second, this is not like catching up on multiple 16 episode seasons of The Walking Dead, this is only six episodes and as such, a pretty breezy series to establish the end of Rick and Michonne’s tale at last. Well, we think so, at least.

While Dead City is coming back for season 2, and Daryl Dixon is coming back for season 3, it seems that The Ones Who Live was always meant to be a one-and-done miniseries and a season 2 has not been announced. Though this is The Walking Dead, and at one point, it seemed like Rick would never come back. I do suspect Andrew Lincoln missed playing the role, so I am not going to rule out the idea that we may see him again, even if it’s not in a second season of this show. AMC is never going to let The Walking Dead go, after all.

I thought the show was pretty good. It scored well, an 88% from critics and a 80% from often hard-to-please fans. I’m not sure I’d rank it in the top 10 seasons of all the Walking Dead series we’ve seen combined, but it was good to see Rick back, even if he was sort of brainwashed for most of the series and kept telling Michonne to go away, which came off as a little weird. But it came together in the end.

You can check it out for yourself now, and I do wonder if it might make it to #1 at some point here, which would be impressive. And hey, maybe make moves toward a season 2.
