In a recent interview, The Penguin star Rhenzy Feliz revealed he wants to portray Miles Morales in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor previously starred as Alex Wilder in Marvel’s Runaways, though he stated he’d rather return in a new role as opposed to reprising the character. Due to being in The Batman’s spinoff, Feliz’s star is on the rise, so he may be a good candidate for the next Spider-Man.
With producer Amy Pascal indicating that a live-action Miles Morales film is on the horizon, there’s a lot of speculation as to who Marvel should cast as the web-slinger. Feliz has experience with the genre and a love of Miles’ character as well as solid acting and musical talent. His casting as Spider-Man could have a huge impact on the MCU moving forward.
What Rhenzy Feliz’s Miles Morales Casting Would Mean
The Penguin Stae Could Play An Older Miles Morales
Feliz discussed the possibility of playing Miles in an appearance on the Agents of Fandom podcast. On his interest in the character, the actor stated: “There’s a lot to explore there, live-action wise. I think that I share some characteristics with the guy, and so I’d love to give that a shot.” Feliz shares a significant trait with Miles. He is Dominican American, meaning that while he does not share Miles’ exact heritage, he’s also Afro-Latino. However, the biggest concern with casting Feliz would be age. At 26, he is only 2 years younger than Tom Holland.
A significant detail about Miles Morales is the way he idolizes Peter Parker. In casting Miles for the MCU, his age relative to Peter’s is important. Other popular fan casts tend to skew younger. Popular age-appropriate choices for Miles are Miles Brown and Cobra Kai’s Dallas Dupree Young, while 22-year-old Caleb McLoughlin is often the first name mentioned by fans. When discussing the potential for an older Miles, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse star Shameik Moore is a fantastic option since his Miles is already beloved. Even so, Feliz has the background and experience to play an adult or late-teens Miles.
Our Take On Rhenzy Feliz As Miles Morales
Rhenzy Feliz Would Be An Asset To The Marvel Cinematic Universe
While Feliz is a bit too old to play Miles Morales, he is incredibly talented and fits the criteria for the part. If the MCU either ages up Peter Parker or introduces an older Miles Morales through multiversal means, then the Encanto star would be a good fit. A potential option could be setting him up to succeed Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. However, he is too old to play Miles to Tom Holland’s Peter.
Regardless, Feliz would be an asset to any Spider-Man film. Casting him as Miles Morales for the MCU would be an exciting choice despite any potential lore changes needed to make it work.
