Sad that Outer Banks is wrapping up after its fifth season? There’s good news for fans of the show! The creators of Outer Banks are working on a new Amazon TV series called The Runarounds, which takes place in the same universe as the Netflix hit.
Is ‘The Runarounds’ an ‘Outer Banks’ Spinoff?
Not exactly. While The Runarounds is created by OBX co-creator Jonas Pate, it isn’t a direct spinoff of the show. However, fans might recognize The Runarounds, the fictional band that appeared in a season three episode of Outer Banks.
Jonas, who directed the pilot back in 2022, will serve as an executive producer alongside fellow Outer Banks creators Josh Pate and Shannon Burke.
What Is ‘The Runarounds’ About?
This young adult drama is inspired by the real-life band of the same name. Similar to Outer Banks, the series will be set and filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Who Stars in ‘The Runarounds’?
The fictional drama stars the real band of the same name and will star the group’s members — William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock and Jesse Golliher. The show also stars Brooklyn Decker, Maximo Salas, Marley Aliah, Hayes MacArthur, Mark Wystrach and Shea Pritchard, as well as show creator Pate’s daughter Lilah Pate.
The band was formed in 2021 when Jonas issued a casting call for musicians to appear on OBX. After being selected from over 5,000 applicants, the group performed for Jonas and later made their debut in season three of the Netflix series. Even before their *Outer Banks* cameo, Pate had already started writing what would become The Runarounds. Following the 2022 pilot, the band recorded an EP and embarked on a tour.
When Will ‘The Runarounds’ Premiere?
The exact release date hasn’t been announced yet. Filming began in 2024, so fans might expect the series to debut sometime in 2025.
