Jodie Foster and her son Kit made a rare red carpet appearance together!
On Saturday, April 5, the True Detective: Night Country actress, 62, and her 23-year-old son posed for photos together at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony in Santa Monica, Calif.
Foster sported a chic, all-white look featuring a sleeveless, collared wrap dress, and wore her short brown hair in a sleek bob. Kit kept things simple with a traditional dark blue suit, pairing the look with a white shirt and polkadot bowtie and his usual glasses.
Foster shares Kit — as well as her older son, Charlie, 26 — with her former partner, Cydney Bernard, whom she split from in 2008. She is now married to Alexandra Hedison.
According to the Silence of the Lambs star, keeping her children out of the spotlight was a conscious decision, she told The Guardian in 2018.
“I know the perils of having a parent involved in your art form are too great,” she said at the time. “My older son is getting more interested in acting now, and I’m glad he discovered it late. My younger son is really shy and I can promise you he will never be an actor.”
Although both of her sons rarely make public appearances with their mother, Charlie made an appearance alongside Foster in February as she attended the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards — where she was nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a TV movie or limited series for her role in True Detective: Night Country.
When she took home the prize for best female actor in a limited or anthology series at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, the mom-of-two shared a rare personal reflection on her family life in her acceptance speech.

“I just want to thank my family. Because Kit, my scientist son, and Charlie, my actor son who’s starting his career, hopefully you understand the joy, such joy, that comes from doing really hard, meaningful, good work,” she said in her speech. “So my boys, I love you, and this, of course, is for you.”
Jodie, who also took home a win at the 2024 Emmy Awards for the same role, told PEOPLE in September that Charlie and Kit are “at that age where they’re starting their careers” — “and they’re pretty insecure about what’s gonna happen.”
“But every time they get a joy, like I got an ‘A’ or I got this job or I got an audition, my heart just fills up 14 times because I have this memory of a beautiful career that’s built on doing meaningful work, and I know that’s the recipe for happiness,” she said. “So I’m just thrilled for them, for the future.”
